Rafael Jodar has been a massive improver this year, winning the title in Marrakech and reaching the Barcelona semi-finals.

The Spaniard earned a spot in the Top 20 after reaching the final in Washington where he lost to Taylor Fritz. He overcame a short turnaround in Montreal, beating two Top 15 players before a semi-final defeat to Brandon Nakashima.

Fatigue appeared to affect the 19-year-old in Cincinnati, saving a match point to beat Denis Shapovalov before crushing Alejandro Tabilo 6-2 6-1 in 75 minutes.

Jodar won the first set against Flavio Cobolli but couldn’t close it out, going down 4-6 7-6 6-3 in the fourth round.

Constant Injury Concerns for Kokkinakis


Thanasi Kokkinakis has played just 15 matches this year, ten of those on the Challenger circuit. He continues to be plagued by injuries which has hampered his career.

The 30-year-old recently retired due to a back injury in the first qualifier in Montreal.

The Australian showed no signs of injury in the first round in Cincinnati. He went down 5-7 7-6 7-6 to Nuno Borges, the contest going just under three hours.
