Opponent Loïs Boisson, returning from a lengthy injury, is seeking vital match wins and confidence before the French Open. With Boisson keen to defend ranking points and build momentum, this match presents her with a timely opportunity for resurgence. Wang hasn’t been able to maintain her early-season momentum, while Boisson’s return from injury is starting to show positive signs at the right time, which could help her come through here.

Boisson Eyes Confidence Boost

  • Xinyu Wang failed to clear the opening round in five of her last eight events.
  • She lost three of her last four matches vs Top 50 players.
  • Lois Boisson lost all three matches since returning from injury this year.

Wang Hoping Strasbourg Sparks Revival

Xinyu Wang enjoyed a strong start to the season by reaching the final in Auckland, the fourth round at the Australian Open, and the quarterfinals in Cluj-Napoca. Those results helped her break into the top 30 rankings for the first time in February.

However, her form has dropped significantly since then. Wang has won only three main-draw matches across her last eight tournaments and suffered five opening-round exits during that stretch.

This will be her fourth appearance in Strasbourg. Apart from a first-round loss in 2023, she reached the second round in each of her last two visits to the tournament.

Boisson Faces Important Clay Court Stretch

Lois Boisson was sidelined for seven months because of wrist and forearm injuries suffered late last season. Since returning to the tour, she has played three tournaments and lost in the opening match at all of them.

The Frenchwoman enjoyed a major breakthrough campaign last year by reaching the semifinals at Roland Garros and later capturing her maiden tour-level title in Hamburg.

Boisson now urgently needs momentum and confidence ahead of the French Open, where she has significant ranking points to defend. She enters this event with a 3-3 record in opening-round matches on tour-level clay, although all three defeats came this season.

Verdict

Xinyu Wang has struggled for consistency and wins in recent months after a strong start to the year. Loïs Boisson, meanwhile, is still building momentum after returning from injury and has significant points to defend in the coming weeks. With extra motivation on her side, Boisson could offer strong value in this matchup.
