Bayern Munich - Setting the Pace

Bayern Munich won 11 Bundesliga straight titles from 2012 to 2023, their stranglehold on the competition stopped only by Bayer Leverkusen in 2023-24.
The Bavarians have bounced back in style, winning by 13 points two seasons ago before a dominant 2025-26 campaign. Bayern finished 16 points clear, scoring 122 goals which was 51 more than Stuttgart.
Vincent Kompany's side won the German Cup and reached the Champions League semi-finals to highlight the strength of their squad.
Raphaël Guerreiro and Leon Goretzka have been released with the club spending €50m each on Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari. They may have to reinforce their attack but with seemingly limitless funds, expect more top quality players to move to southern Germany.
There is little doubt that Bayern Munich will win the Bundesliga once again. Few if any have the ability to stop Luis Díaz, Michael Olise and Harry Kane who combined to score 66 Bundesliga goals last season, only three teams scoring more.

Borussia Dortmund’s last Bundesliga title came in 2011-12, finishing second in eight of the 14 seasons since. They had the best defence last season and scored more than two goals a game, but it wasn’t enough to get near Bayern Munich.
Maximilian Beier and Serhou Guirassy have the ability to find the net but more goal threats are needed. It remains to be seen how new signing Giannis Konstantelias will handle the step up in class from the Greek Super League.
Samuele Inácio got plenty of game time towards the end of the previous campaign and the talented teenager could be a big improver.
Dortmund continue to invest in youngsters but keeping pace with Bayern over 34 games will be a big challenge once again.
Leipzig - Tough Challenge for Demichelis

Leipzig finished second in the 2020-21 Bundesliga season but couldn’t keep up the pace. They were 24 points behind Bayern last season, conceding an alarming 47 goals.
Ole Werner lasted one campaign in charge and has been replaced by Martín Demichelis. The former Bayern Munich centre-back takes over after spells at River Plate, Monterrey and Mallorca.
Yan Diomande was sold to Real Madrid for 125m and with Christoph Baumgartner out for an extended period due to a hamstring injury, Demichelis will need to find other ways to produce goals.
Bayer Leverkusen - Searching for More Spanish Magic

Bayer Leverkusen have been slipping down the table since their improbable Bundesliga title in 2023-24. They finished second the following season but dropped to sixth in 2025-26.
It was a turbulent campaign with Erik ten Hag sacked in November and replaced by Kasper Hjulmand. Carles Martínez is the new manager after the Spaniard spent three seasons at Toulouse.
Losing Alejandro Grimaldo leaves a big hole in the squad but there are talented youngsters who could take big steps up. Kennet Eichhorn, Ibrahim Maza, Afonso Moreira and Christian Kofane are the primary candidates.
This is set to be a transition season for the Werkself who will also have a Europa League campaign to contend with.
Stuttgart - Stability Under Hoeness

Stuttgart had the second highest attack last season but leaking 49 goals resulted in a fourth placed finish.
They have kept their squad intact and have stability in manager Sebastian Hoeness who has been in charge since 2023.
Bilal El Khannouss was signed permanently and with Jamie Leweling and Deniz Undav in attack, goals should continue to flow freely.
Hoffenheim - Sinsheim Club Return to Europe

Hoffenheim enjoyed a resurgence last season, finishing fifth, their best campaign since 2017-18 under Julian Nagelsmann.
Christian Ilzer has been in charge since 2024 and will have to do without Bazoumana Touré who joined Newcastle for €50m. The club have reinvested in youngsters to improve the squad, led by 18-year-old Belgian midfielder Nathan De Cat.
With a return to Europe set to stretch their squad to the limit, it remains to be seen if the Sinsheim club can take the next step.
Eintracht Frankfurt - Hütter Returns

Eintracht Frankfurt are trying to stabilise after finishing eighth last season, one win away from a spot in the Conference League play-offs.
Adi Hütter returns to the club after spells at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Monaco. He will have to rebuild a defence that is missing Aurèle Amenda, Rasmus Nissen Kristensen and Nathaniel Brown who were sold for a combined €74m.
Can Uzun is likely to be the primary playmaker with Jonathan Burkardt to lead the line after scoring 13 goals in just 1342 minutes last season.
If Hütter can sort out the defence and get the most out of Farès Chaibi, Uzun, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, Ansgar Knauff and Burkardt, expect to see the Eagles return to Europe.
Freiburg - Manzambi Departs

Freiburg claimed seventh position last season and will compete in Europe for the fourth time in five years. They went on a deep run in the Conference League, reaching the final in May when they went down 3-0 to Aston Villa.
Julian Schuster stays in charge for a third successive campaign, his side weakened after Johan Manzambi was sold to Aston Villa for €60m.
The Black Forest club face a tough challenge to qualify for Europe again, especially if they go on another deep run in the Conference League.

Borussia Dortmund are sure to finish in the Top 4 but I am not so sure Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen deserve to be so short in this market.
Stuttgart's squad is not far away from those two clubs who have new managers in charge.
Sebastian Hoeness has been at the helm since March 2023, guided the club to second spot in 2023-24 and can get the Swabians into the top four once again.

Eintracht Frankfurt conceded 65 goals last season, just two teams conceding more. Bringing Adi Hütter back to the club is great news for the club who finished third two seasons ago.
I am expecting the Eagles to climb above Freiburg, Hoffenheim, finish in the top six and get back into European competitions.

With Schalke surely set to stay in the top flight and Elversberg doing some promising work in the transfer market, I think Paderborn are most likely to go down.
The North Rhine-Westphalia club have been promoted to the Bundesliga flight just twice in their history, finishing last on both occasions.
Verdict
Paderborn have never survived a season in the Bundesliga, finishing bottom on both occasions. I expect that trend to continue.
Eintracht Frankfurt have no European football to worry about and with Adi Hütter returning to the club, the Eagles are well placed to bounce back.
Stuttgart have stability on and off the pitch and after finishing second three seasons ago, another Top 4 spot is well within reach.
