Hong Kong is expected to secure a comfortable victory against Brunei in their next ASEAN Cup 2026 qualifier. Historically, Hong Kong has won all four previous encounters with Brunei, boasting an overwhelming 26-1 aggregate score. Recent form also favors Hong Kong, who dominated Laos 4-0 in their opener, while Brunei continues to struggle, having lost seven consecutive matches. With core players like Sun Ming-Him and Everton Camargo in form, Hong Kong is strongly tipped to progress to the finals.

Brunei are one of the weakest sides in Southeastern Asia, so I expect Hong Kong to claim a convincing victory on Wednesday.

Key Stats

  • Hong Kong have won to nil in 2 of their last 3 matches.
  • Hong Kong have won in –3 handicap in their last 4 matches against Brunei.
  • Brunei have lost their last 7 matches.

Four H2H Meetings so Far

These two rivals locked horns four times and Hong Kong have won every encounter with a 26-1 goal difference.

Hong Kong Playing in Front of Home Crowd

Hong Kong had zero problems in their ASEAN Cup 2026 opening match, crushing Laos 4-0 in front of the home crowd while allowing zero shots on target.

Sun Ming-Him was named man of the match, breaking the deadlock early while also providing an assist for Everton Camargo just before the break.

Before the tournament, Hong Kong's most recent appearances were two friendlies in June, beating Mongolia 2-0 while losing to Cambodia with the same scoreline.

Brunei on a Horrible Streak

Brunei will need a miracle to reach the ASEAN Cup 2026 finals after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Laos in the opening round.

This was an open contest, both sides firing seven shots on target each, while Haziq Syamra was their sole scorer just before the break.

Before the tournament, Brunei have lost six games in a row across competitions and generally are considered as one of the weakest teams in Southeastern Asia.

Team News

Everton Camargo is a 35-year old veteran who has 35 appearances for Hong Kong, scoring 13 goals and registering five assists. Tan Chun Lok is the captain with 63 games for the national team.

Azwan Ali Rahman is captaining for the visitors, accumulating 33 games and 9 goals for Brunei. All of their players are coming from domestic leagues.

Verdict

Hong Kong won 10-0 the last time they locked horns against Brunei in late 2023. I am backing them to earn another convincing win and advance to the ASEAN Cup 2026 finals.
