Spain have surged to outright favourites to win the 2026 World Cup after a clinical 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals.

Luis de la Fuente’s side completely shut down Kylian Mbappé and a star-studded Les Bleus attack. Rodri was sensational in Dallas, proving why he won the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

La Roja are the first team into the World Cup final which will be played in New Jersey on July 20. While potential final opponents England and Argentina offer individual brilliance, Spain are the best team by some margin.

Match Report: Clinical Spain Suffocate Les Bleus

The highly anticipated clash in Texas brought together the tournament's two finest defensive units, but it was Spain's precision that immediately dictated the tempo.

It didn't take long for the match to spark into life, France’s Adrien Rabiot picking up a yellow card for a rash challenge. Spain took the lead in the 21st minute when Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal in the box, Mikel Oyarzabal stepping up and dispatching the penalty.

Didier Deschamps brought on Manu Koné and Désiré Doué early in the second half but La Roja stuck a dagger into the French hopes in the 58th minute. Pedro Porro played a 1-2 with Dani Olmo, got into the box and fired past Mike Maignan to double the advantage.

With Rodri completely suffocating the midfield, Spain navigated the remaining half-hour and walked off as commanding 2-0 victors. They have now conceded just one goal in seven matches at the tournament.

Analysing the Contenders

Argentina

Lionel Scaloni's side have few problems scoring goals but having conceded five knockout goals, their defensive frailties are a massive red flag compared to Spain's rock solid backline.

Lionel Messi can never be discounted, but at 39-years-old, age is catching up with him and this is surely his last chance to win another World Cup title.

England

The Three Lions have undeniable world-class players in their ranks, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane consistently rescuing them from the brink of disaster. Both have scored six goals at the tournament.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have lived on the edge, winning all three knockout games by one goal margin. They remain a dangerous side if they make it to New Jersey.

2026 World Cup Winner Betting Odds

Spain could be backed around 7.00 before their Round of 16 victory against Portugal. Their 2-0 victory over France has seen them come into 1.70 which is unlikely to fluctuate regardless of who they face in the final.

Punters who didn't get on England and Argentina at a decent price still have a chance, but getting past this Spanish side in the final is going to be an incredibly difficult task.
