Alexander Zverev is tipped to win in straight sets against rising star Alexander Blockx in the third round of the ATP Rome (Italian Open) on May 10, 2026. Blockx, who has improved significantly this season with notable victories and a ranking jump, faces a tough test as Zverev has a strong record in Rome and recently defeated Blockx without dropping a set in Madrid. Expect Zverev’s experience and form to prevail again. The betting recommendation is a Zverev straight sets victory.

Alexander Blockx didn’t create one break point opportunity in a straight sets defeat to Alexander Zverev last week. Zverev has won two titles in Rome where he can win in straight sets once again.

Blockx a Big Improver

Alexander Blockx has risen from 115 to 36 in the rankings this year, winning the Canberra Challenger and showing strong form on clay.

The Belgian qualified in Monte Carlo where he suffered a third round defeat to Alex de Minaur. He met another Top 10 player in Munich, a 6-4 7-6 second round loss against Ben Shelton.

Blockx had a slow start in Madrid before taking out three Top 20 players. He got past Felix Auger Aliassime, Francisco Cerundolo and Casper Ruud in straight sets before a 6-2 7-5 semi-final defeat to Alexander Zverev.

The 21-year-old had another slow start in Rome before defeating wildcard Federico Cina 4-6 6-1 6-3. He repeated the feat in the second round, coming back to beat Tallon Griekspoor 6-7 6-3 6-4, saving all three break points against the Dutchman.

Zverev Entrenched in the Top 3

Alexander Zverev has been consistent this year but continually struggles against the top two players in men’s tennis. He lost his first five semi-finals, four of them against Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner.

The German got to the final in Madrid last week and met Sinner once again. He was thoroughly outplayed in Spain, losing 6-1 6-2 in 57 minutes.

Zverev is aiming for a third title in Rome where he has a 28-7 record. He beat Daniel Altmaier 7-5 6-3 in his opening match, saving 6/8 break points.

Verdict

Alexander Zverev is a two time champion in Rome and comprehensively beat Alexander Blockx last week. I am expecting the trend to continue in Italy.
