Bencic Chasing Consecutive Rome Wins

Belinda Bencic opened her Rome campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bianca Andreescu. She dropped serve twice but broke her opponent six times during the match. 

The Swiss player is now aiming to win consecutive main draw matches in Rome for the first time in her career. In seven previous appearances, all of her runs ended in or before the second round. 

Bencic has produced consistent results throughout the season and has won at least two matches in each of her last four tournaments. Her best performances include quarterfinal runs in Charleston and Miami along with fourth-round appearances in Indian Wells and Madrid.

Kalinskaya Survives Dramatic Rome Battle

Anna Kalinskaya survived a huge scare against Katerina Siniakova to reach the third round in Rome, winning 4-6, 7-6, 7-5. She saved five match points in the second set and another four in the decider to complete the comeback. 

The victory was an important relief for the Russian, who arrived in Rome after back-to-back opening-round defeats at WTA 1000 events in Miami and Madrid. She lost to Anastasia Zakharova and Dalma Galfi respectively. 

Kalinskaya was close to dropping outside the top 50 last year before rediscovering form during the second half of the season. Her improved consistency helped her climb back into the top 30 rankings. 

She carried that momentum into 2026 with a third-round run at the Australian Open and a quarterfinal appearance in Doha. However, her form has dipped recently, failing to win multiple matches in four of her last five tournaments.
