Top Seed Starts With Confident Victory
Aryna Sabalenka opened her Roland Garros campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first round. Sabalenka dropped serve three times but responded strongly by breaking her opponent on six occasions.
The world No. 1 made a dominant start to the season, winning 23 of her first 24 matches and reaching the final in all five of her hard-court events earlier this year, collecting four titles during that stretch.
Her form has dipped slightly since the start of the clay swing, however. Sabalenka suffered a quarterfinal loss to Hailey Baptiste in Madrid and followed it with a third-round exit against Sorana Cirstea in Rome.
She still carries a strong record in second-round matches at the French Open, winning six of her seven appearances at this stage. Sabalenka has also converted each of her last three second-round appearances in Paris into quarterfinal runs.

Jacquemot Finds Relief With Straight-Sets Win
Elsa Jacquemot reached the second round after defeating Linda Fruhvirtova 6-4, 6-3. The Frenchwoman recovered from 0-3 down in the opening set before taking control of the match.
The victory also ended Jacquemot’s five-match losing streak on clay. It was only her third win from 14 events this season, underlining her difficult run of form this year.
Jacquemot enters the next round with a 1-4 record in Grand Slam second-round matches. Her only win at this stage came at the French Open last season, where she advanced to the third round.
