Paolini Starts Paris With Confidence

Jasmine Paolini moved into the second round at the French Open after defeating Dayana Yastremska in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. She recovered from squandering a 3-1 lead in the opening set and rallied after allowing Yastremska to serve for the set before closing the match comfortably. 

The Italian has struggled to produce consistent results since the WTA Finals last year. Her dip in form, combined with an inability to defend important ranking points, pushed her outside the top 10 rankings. 

Paolini has played nine tournaments this season and recorded multiple wins in only three of them, with all those deeper runs coming on hard courts. The last time she achieved multiple main-draw wins on clay came here in Paris last year when she reached the fourth round. 

Apart from her last two appearances, Paolini had failed to progress beyond the second round in each of her other five main-draw campaigns at Roland Garros.

Sierra Claims Breakthrough Roland Garros Win

Solana Sierra defeated Emma Raducanu in straight sets to move into the second round at the French Open, winning 6-0, 7-6. Despite dropping serve three times in the second set, she never trailed at any stage of the match. 

This was Sierra’s first main-draw victory in Paris after failing in qualifying and then losing in the opening round in her previous two appearances at Roland Garros. 

After struggling for consistency during the opening months of the season, the Argentine found strong form during the recent clay swing. She reached the fourth round in Madrid, her best result at WTA 1000 level, followed by a third-round run in Rome and a quarterfinal appearance at the WTA 125 event in Parma. 

Sierra had previously won a Grand Slam main-draw match only once, at Wimbledon last year, where she turned that breakthrough into a fourth-round run. She now hopes for a similar outcome in Paris with solid clay momentum behind her.
