Daria Kasatkina enters the Strasbourg quarterfinals riding a wave of confidence after winning the WTA 125 La Bisbal title and securing four straight-set victories this week, including over world No. 20 Samsonova. In contrast, Jaqueline Cristian has struggled to replicate last season's clay form, though she advanced with a solid win over Tauson. With Kasatkina leading their head-to-head and performing strongly on clay, she is the favorite to progress, as Cristian continues searching for consistency.

Kasatkina’s recent title and winning momentum have lifted her confidence, while Cristian has looked slightly below her best clay level compared to last season, which puts the advantage with Kasatkina.

Kasatkina Brings Clay Confidence

  • Jaqueline Cristian holds a 2–4 record in clay quarterfinals.
  • She owns a 7–5 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.

Cristian Finds Timely Momentum

Jaqueline Cristian secured her place in the quarterfinals in Strasbourg with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Clara Tauson. She saved all four break points she faced and won 77 percent of her first-serve points during the match.

This is the first time Cristian has recorded multiple main-draw wins on clay this season. Before this week, she had won only two matches across her first four clay tournaments combined.

The Romanian will also be pleased to end a run of four consecutive round-of-16 exits. Since reaching the Adelaide quarterfinal earlier this year, she had fallen at this stage in several events, including Dubai and Miami.

Overall, Cristian holds a 6-7 record in tour-level quarterfinals. On clay, she lost her first four quarterfinal matches before winning her last two, both achieved last season in Rabat and Iasi.

Kasatkina Turns Season Around

Daria Kasatkina moved into the quarterfinals with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win over Peyton Stearns. She dropped serve once and converted five of her eight break-point chances during the match.

Kasatkina has now won four matches in a row this week after coming through qualifying, with all of those victories arriving in straight sets. The run also includes a win over world No. 20 Liudmila Samsonova.

The 29-year-old entered the tournament in poor form after failing to record multiple wins in eight of her nine tour-level events this season, including three opening-round exits on clay. However, her recent WTA 125 title in La Bisbal appears to have restored her confidence.

This is Kasatkina’s first tour-level quarterfinal since Adelaide last year. She owns a 5-6 record in tour-level clay quarterfinals, although she has won four of her last five matches at this stage on the surface.

Verdict

Jaqueline Cristian was more consistent on clay at this stage last year, but she has not quite reached that level this season. Daria Kasatkina, meanwhile, arrives with strong momentum and growing confidence after winning the WTA 125 title in La Bisbal and adding four more wins this week. That makes Kasatkina the favorite in this clash.
