Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys will face off in a highly anticipated match at the Australian Open. Pegula, who hasn't lost a set in the tournament so far, carries strong late-2025 momentum, including semifinal runs in major tournaments. Meanwhile, Keys, the defending champion, has been improving her game with each round. Despite Keys leading their head-to-head 2-1, Pegula's current form gives her the slight advantage. However, the matchup remains finely balanced, promising an enthralling contest.

Pegula may come in as a narrow favourite, but there is very little separating these two on either current form or overall ability. This has all the signs of a tight, competitive contest, with Pegula just edging it and the over on games very much in play.

Stats - From Consistency to Clutch

  • Jessica Pegula has reached eight Slam quarterfinals in five years (8–2 in fourth rounds).
  • She is 3–8 vs top-10 players at majors.
  • Madison Keys has made 12 Slam quarterfinals, four in Melbourne.
  • Three of her Slam top-10 wins came at the 2025 Australian Open.

Pegula Tightens Grip

Jessica Pegula has reached the fourth round without dropping a set, losing no more than three games in any of her six sets. She moved past Zakharova, Kessler and Selekhmeteva with ease.

The sixth seed endured uneven form last season, struggling to build momentum through the middle of the year. Those patches briefly slowed her rise.

Still, Pegula closed 2025 strongly with semifinal runs at the US Open, Beijing, Wuhan and the WTA Finals, form she has carried into Melbourne.

Keys Steadies Title Defense

Madison Keys has looked sharper with each round of her title defense, improving after early scares against Oleksandra Oliynykova and Ashlyn Krueger.

The ninth seed then produced a more assured display to beat Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-3, capitalizing on the former world No. 1’s lack of form.

Although she arrived with Brisbane and Adelaide quarterfinals, Keys is still searching for the level that brought her Adelaide and Australian Open titles last year, having not reached a final since.

Verdict

Both players are capable of pushing each other, but based on the performances earlier this week, Pegula holds a slight edge. Even so, the margins are thin and this remains a closely contested matchup.
