Naomi Osaka and Karolina Muchova face off in the Bad Homburg final, each reaching their first grass-court championship match. Muchova advanced by defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse, marking her fifth semifinal or better result this season. Osaka overpowered Xinyu Wang for her best-ever grass showing and looks to capture her first WTA title since 2021 after a stellar week. Both players have impressed, but Osaka’s clinical performance makes her the favorite to snap a five-year title drought.

Both finalists have played outstanding tennis this week, but Osaka has looked more clinical in her victories. If she maintains that level, she has a strong chance to capture her first title in five years.

Muchova Continues Outstanding Season

Karolina Muchova moved into the Bad Homburg final after defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-4, 6-4. The Czech won 86% of her first-service points and converted two of the six break points she created during the match.

This is the best grass-court result of Muchova's career. Before this week, she had reached three grass-court quarterfinals, but each ended in defeat, including two at Wimbledon in 2019 and 2021 and another in Eastbourne in 2024.

Apart from early exits in Rome and Berlin, Muchova has won at least two matches at every tournament she has played this season. She has now reached five semifinals or better in 2026, including this week's run in Bad Homburg.

Muchova holds a 2-6 record in tour-level finals. Earlier this season, she snapped a four-match losing streak in championship matches by winning the biggest title of her career in Doha before finishing runner-up to Elena Rybakina in Stuttgart.

Osaka Continues Dominant Week in Germany

Naomi Osaka secured her place in the Bad Homburg final with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Xinyu Wang. The Japanese fired eight aces and converted four of the seven break points she created during the match.

Like her opponent, this is also Osaka's best result on grass. Her previous best performances on the surface were a semifinal run in Nottingham in 2018 and a quarterfinal appearance in 's-Hertogenbosch in 2024.

This is also Osaka's best result of the season. Recurring abdominal issues limited her schedule earlier this year, and before this week all of her best runs ended in the fourth round, including at Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros.

Osaka holds a 7-5 record in tour-level finals. She is currently on a three-match losing streak in championship matches, with her most recent title coming at the Australian Open in 2021.

Verdict

Both players are enjoying their best run on grass and have reached this stage of the tournament for the first time. Naomi Osaka has been in commanding form throughout the week, while Karolina Muchova has impressed with her variety and intelligent shot-making. With the level Osaka has produced so far, she looks well placed to end her five-year wait for a title this week.
