Despite Leolia Jeanjean's recent victories in Madrid, Coco Gauff is the preferred contender in their upcoming tennis encounter. Gauff's formidable track record, including reaching multiple finals in the past year and a strong showing at the Miami event, highlights her prowess. Jeanjean has managed to string together some wins after a challenging streak, showcasing her potential. However, Gauff's consistent performance and higher ranking position her as the clear frontrunner. This match is anticipated to be an exciting display of Gauff aiming to maintain her dominance.

Jeanjean arrives with confidence after a strong week, but Gauff’s higher level and current form still put her firmly in control of this matchup.

  • She has a 1–3 career record vs Top 10 players.

Jeanjean Extends Winning Run Here

Leolia Jeanjean continued her strong run in Madrid with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Oksana Selekhmeteva. She came through qualifying with back-to-back three-set wins over Rebeka Masarova and Donna Vekic.

This is a much-needed result as she arrived on a four-match losing streak (excluding Billie Jean King Cup) and had not recorded a main-draw win outside ITF events in India.

The 30-year-old has achieved back-to-back main-draw wins at tour level only twice before, both on clay, reaching the quarterfinals in Bogota in 2025 and the third round at Roland Garros in 2022.

Gauff Targets Strong Madrid Defense

Coco Gauff achieved her best Sunshine Double result by reaching the Miami final, winning four consecutive three-set matches before losing to Aryna Sabalenka in another tight battle.

However, she couldn’t build on that momentum, falling to Karolina Muchova in the Stuttgart quarterfinals. She now faces pressure to defend major points after reaching finals in Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros last year.

Despite a few early exits, Gauff has had a solid season, highlighted by a quarterfinal at the Australian Open, a semifinal in Dubai, and the Miami final.

The 22-year-old has played Madrid five times, reaching her best result last year as runner-up, and holds a 4-1 record in opening-round matches at the event.

Verdict

Leolia Jeanjean has picked up three solid wins this week, giving her good early momentum. However, her inconsistency, combined with Coco Gauff’s strong form, makes the American a clear favorite to win this in straight sets.
