Tagger Eyes Another WTA 1000 Breakthrough

Lilli Tagger qualified for the main draw on her Cincinnati debut after defeating Lin Zhu and Robin Montgomery in the qualifying stages. She will now be looking to carry her recent title-winning momentum into the main draw this week. 

The 18-year-old Austrian struggled during the clay and grass seasons, apart from a couple of quarterfinal appearances in Linz and WTA 125 Saint-Malo. However, she rejuvenated her season after returning to hard courts by winning the title and will be looking to continue her success on the surface. 

She has already played three WTA 1000 events this year and cleared the first-round hurdle in two of them, including Miami and Indian Wells. She will be looking to repeat that result once again.

Gibson Looks to Rediscover Her Early-Season Form

Talia Gibson is coming off a successful result in Toronto, where she reached the third round before losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets. It was a confidence-boosting run after struggling for consistency in recent months. 

Before that campaign, she failed to win a main-draw match in 10 of her previous 12 events, which was a contrast to her early-season form. 

She produced breakthrough results at this level earlier this year by reaching the quarterfinals in Indian Wells and the fourth round in Miami. She will now be looking to produce a similar result and continue her success in North America.
