Samsonova Builds on Her Strong North American Form

Liudmila Samsonova is coming off a successful campaign in Toronto, where she reached the fourth round after defeating Barbora Krejcikova and Maya Joint before losing to Elena Rybakina in three sets. 

The Russian has continued to improve in recent weeks, reaching the third round at Wimbledon and the quarterfinals in Washington. These are encouraging signs after a difficult stretch earlier this year, when she won only three matches across 12 tournaments from Doha to Berlin. 

This is her fifth main-draw appearance in Cincinnati, and she failed to win a main-draw match in three of her previous four visits. Her only success came in 2024, when she reached the quarterfinals.
