Mayar Sherif and Paula Badosa have both advanced to the Iasi final after impressive runs. Sherif, on a 14-match clay-court streak, arrives fresher and has reached her third consecutive final, while Badosa’s dramatic semifinal comeback extended her own nine-match streak. The head-to-head stands at 1-1, but with Badosa enduring tougher matches, Sherif may have the edge to claim the title. Both are looking to boost their rankings after challenging seasons, but Sherif’s momentum makes her the favorite.

Sherif Extends Winning Streak in Iasi

Mayar Sherif ended Oleksandra Oliynykova's dream run with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory to reach the final. She dropped serve only once and broke her opponent five times during the match.

With this victory, Sherif has extended her clay-court winning streak to 14 matches and reached her third consecutive clay-court final after lifting the WTA 125 titles in Brescia and Contrexeville.

The Egyptian has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround. She had recorded multiple main-draw wins at only two tournaments during the first five months of the season, but this recent surge will see her climb back inside the world's top 125.

Sherif owns a 1-2 record in WTA Tour finals. Her lone tour-level title came in Parma in 2022, where she defeated Maria Sakkari.

Badosa Fights Into the Iasi Final

Paula Badosa moved into the final after staging a dramatic comeback to defeat Tamara Zidansek 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 in Iasi. She trailed by a set and 3-5 in the second set and later saved the match when Zidansek served for victory in the deciding set before completing the comeback.

With this victory, Badosa snapped a four-match losing streak in WTA Tour semifinals while extending her winning streak to nine matches after capturing the WTA 125 Bastad title last week.

The Spaniard had dropped close to the top 150 following a disappointing first half of the season, but this run, combined with last week's title, will see her return to the top 100 in the rankings.

Badosa boasts a perfect 4-0 record in WTA Tour finals. Her most recent title came in Washington in 2024, where she defeated Marie Bouzkova.

Verdict

Both players have enjoyed outstanding runs over the past few weeks, but with Badosa coming through a series of physically demanding matches, Sherif has a strong opportunity to capitalize and lift the title this week.
