In the Bad Homburg Open quarterfinals, Naomi Osaka faces Ekaterina Alexandrova in their first career meeting. Alexandrova enters the match after a significant upset over French Open champion Mirra Andreeva, ending her eight-match top-10 losing streak and regaining confidence. Osaka, by contrast, has had her most convincing run this season, reaching her first quarterfinal of 2026 and displaying strong consistency, despite a modest grass-court record. While both players have mixed results against top opponents, Osaka’s recent form makes her the slight favorite for this encounter.

Alexandrova’s upset win over Andreeva should restore her confidence, but Osaka has shown the stronger form this season and remains the slight favorite despite her mixed grass-court record.

Osaka Ends Quarterfinal Wait

Naomi Osaka moved into the quarterfinals in Bad Homburg after comfortable straight-set victories over Magdalena Frech and Elise Mertens. She dropped no more than six games in either match, making it one of her most convincing runs of the season.

The result comes as a relief for the Japanese, as it is her first tour-level quarterfinal of the year. Before this week, she had reached the round of 16 four times in 2026, at Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros, but lost on each occasion.

Osaka has reached only two previous tour-level quarterfinals on grass. She lost at this stage in 's-Hertogenbosch in 2024, while her best result on the surface came with a semifinal run in Nottingham in 2023.

Overall, Osaka owns a 21-12 record in tour-level quarterfinals. Since the start of 2025, she has won all three quarterfinals she has played, excluding one walkover.

Ekaterina Alexandrova Ends Top-10 Drought

Ekaterina Alexandrova secured her place in the Bad Homburg quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over French Open champion Mirra Andreeva. The Russian was broken only once and converted three of the 11 break points she created during the match.

Her results on grass have improved with each tournament this season. Alexandrova suffered a first-round exit in 's-Hertogenbosch, reached the second round in Berlin, and has now advanced to the quarterfinals in Bad Homburg.

The victory over Andreeva ended an eight-match losing streak against top-10 opponents. It is also only the second time this season that Alexandrova has recorded multiple main-draw wins at a tournament, following her runner-up finish in Abu Dhabi.

Alexandrova holds a 30-16 record in tour-level quarterfinals. On grass, she is 4-4 at this stage and has won four of her last five grass-court quarterfinals.

Verdict

Ekaterina Alexandrova finally ended her disappointing run on tour, and her recent victory over Mirra Andreeva should provide a significant confidence boost. Naomi Osaka, meanwhile, has continued to produce solid results this season and arrives in consistent form.

Although Osaka has not enjoyed much success on grass in the past, her current level gives her a slight edge based on the recent performances of both players.
