Coco Gauff faces Paula Badosa in Berlin, with both seeking a spot in the quarterfinals. Badosa, despite a recent win, continues to struggle with fitness and consistency, making Gauff the clear favorite, especially considering her strong 2024 results and higher ranking. Badosa has not reached a tour-level quarterfinal in a year, while Gauff is looking to re-enter the Top 5 after her French Open disappointment. The key recommendation is to back Gauff, given Badosa's ongoing challenges.

Badosa Searching for Consistency Again

Paula Badosa moved into the second round after defeating Suzan Lamens in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. She fired eight aces and saved three of the four break points she faced during the match.

The Spaniard has struggled with recurring fitness issues in recent months, which have prevented her from building momentum and contributed to several early exits. Before arriving this week, she was on a five-match losing streak.

Badosa has played 13 tournaments this season and recorded multiple wins only twice, reaching the semifinals at the WTA 125 event in Austin and the third round in Charleston. She is now looking to reach her first tour-level quarterfinal since her run in Berlin last year.

Gauff Looking to Regain Top 5 Spot

Coco Gauff arrives in Berlin after a disappointing title defence at Roland Garros, where she lost to Anastasia Potapova in the third round despite winning the opening set. The result saw her drop out of the Top 5 in the rankings.

The American produced several strong results earlier in the season, reaching the finals in Rome and Miami, the semifinals in Dubai and the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. Those performances helped her remain among the leading players on tour despite her recent setback in Paris.

This will be Gauff's fifth appearance in Berlin. She reached the semifinals in both 2022 and 2024 but suffered early exits in her other two visits, including an opening-round loss here in 2025.
