Jodar a Big Improver


Rafael Jodar started the year ranked 165 and is now a Top 50 player. He won his first ATP Tour event last month, taking out the title in Marrakech.

The 19-year-old took that form to Barcelona where he thrashed Jaume Munar 6-1 6-2, Ugo Carabelli 6-3 6-3 and Cameron Norrie 6-3 6-2 to get into the semi-finals.

The Spaniard went close against Arthur Fils, saving 10/13 break points in a 3-6 6-3 6-2 defeat.

De Jong Outclassed on the ATP Tour


Jesper de Jong is 6-12 this year, unable to reach the main draw or get past the first round in nine ATP Tour events.

The Dutchman is 0-6 against Top 100 players in that run, five of those defeats coming in straight sets.

De Jong failed to qualify in Barcelona, beaten 6-4 6-4 by Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second qualifier.

Rafael Jodar is one of the brightest prospects in men’s tennis and can continue his rise in Madrid. Jesper de Jong is set for a swift exit in the first round.
