Alexandra Eala is positioned as the favorite in her Queen’s Club matchup against Shuai Zhang, thanks to Eala’s consistent season and recent Challenger title. While Eala arrives with strong momentum and a five-match win streak, Zhang is looking to snap a long grass-court drought, having not won a main-draw match on grass since 2022. With Eala showing repeated strength against players outside the Top 50, the recommendation is to favor her in this first career meeting between the two.

Shuai Zhang Looking to End Long Grass-Court Drought

Shuai Zhang secured her place in the Queen's Club main draw after defeating Hannah Klugman and Heather Watson in qualifying. It marks a successful return after falling in the final qualifying round to Ajla Tomljanovic at this event last year.

The 37-year-old has struggled for consistency this season, recording multiple main-draw wins in only two of her 15 tournaments. Her best results came with a semifinal run in Merida and a quarterfinal appearance in Strasbourg, a disappointing return considering the strong form she showed during the Asian swing late last year.

Zhang will now look to revive her season on grass, although her recent record on the surface is a concern. She has not won a main-draw match on grass since Wimbledon 2022 and will be eager to end that drought this week.

Eala Arrives on Grass With Challenger Title

Alexandra Eala bounced back from back-to-back opening-round exits in Strasbourg and Roland Garros by entering the Birmingham Challenger last week. She battled through consecutive three-set matches against Rebeka Masarova and Nikola Bartunkova on her way to lifting the title.

The 21-year-old finished the clay season with just four wins from six tournaments, but it was still a productive stretch. She recorded multiple main-draw wins at tour-level clay events for the first time in her career, highlighted by a third-round appearance in Rome.

Eala also enjoyed a strong start to the season, posting three quarterfinal-or-better results and reaching the fourth round at both Indian Wells and Miami. Those performances helped her break into the Top 30 for the first time in her career.

Verdict

Alexandra Eala has produced solid and consistent results throughout the year, showing steady improvement and confidence. Shuai Zhang, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency and owns a poor record on grass. Those factors give Eala the edge in this clash.
