Zeynep Sonmez arrives in Indian Wells after a strong quarterfinal run in Merida. She defeated Ann Li and Cadence Brace in the early rounds. 

That result ended a four match losing streak. Before Merida, her only main draw wins this season came at the Australian Open where she reached the third round. 

Last year she played here as a qualifier and beat Wei Sijia before giving a walkover in the next round. With a higher ranking now, she enters directly and looks to build on her recent momentum.

Kessler Ready for Indian Wells Return

McCartney Kessler skipped the WTA 1000 events in Doha and Dubai due to a lower back issue. She returns to action for the first time since her quarterfinal run in Abu Dhabi. 

She has played four tournaments this year and cleared the opening round in three of them. Those runs include second rounds in Brisbane and the Australian Open along with her Abu Dhabi quarterfinal. 

Kessler has played Indian Wells twice before. She lost in the first round in 2024 and improved to reach the second round in 2025.
