  • North should control this through midfield, with Davies-Uniacke, Sheezel and Simpkin set to dominate stoppage.
  • Richmond’s scoring remains the key issue, averaging just 60 points per game this season.
  • Total points under is the standout market with the Tigers unlikely to generate enough scoreboard pressure.
  • Best player props: Harry Sheezel 30+ and Luke Davies-Uniacke 30+ disposals.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Richmond Tigers Preview

North Melbourne enjoy a golden opportunity to take advantage of a struggling Richmond outfit to take their win-loss record to 4-2 after six matches in 2026.

While the Kangaroos have struggled to put sides away in the past, they have the midfield class and defensive pressure that should gradually wear Richmond down.

Alistair Clarkson’s side come off a 26-point loss to Brisbane in Gather Round but can take some positives out of that match. Even without Tristan Xerri, North were highly competitive around the ball against Brisbane, virtually breaking even in stoppages and clearances despite losing the hitouts 31-49.

That is where this match should be won. Expect Luke Davies-Uniacke, Harry Sheezel and Jy Simpkin to set the tone around clearance, with North’s ability to generate repeat inside 50s likely to put Richmond’s undermanned defence under constant pressure.

Richmond, come off a 56-point loss to GWS and were torn apart early by the Giants, conceding six first-quarter goals from stoppage and allowing the Giants’ midfielders to surge forward with too much ease.

Their ball-use going forward has been a major concern. Despite leading the inside 50 count in recent weeks, they are averaging just 60 points per game this season and come up against a North side that has become far more organised behind the ball.

With North averaging 90-points per game, the total points under presents appeal in the Round 6 encounter, with some player props centred around Harry Sheezel and Luke Davies-Uniacke

Sheezel had 54 disposals the last time these sides met and Davies-Uniacke has been influential in recent head to heads. With the Tigers struggling to contain strong inside midfielders, both look primed for another big night.

  • Richmond are averaging just 60 points per game this season, the Kangaroos are averaging 90.
  • The Tigers have lost their past four by an average margin of 57 points.
  • Harry Sheezel had 54 disposals the last time the two sides met and has hit 30+ in seven of his past eight matches.
  • Luke Davies-Uniacke has averaged 33 disposals in his past five matches against the Tigers.

Head to Head

North Melbourne have won the past three between the two sides and were 48-point winners in Round 23 last season, with Harry Sheezel equalling the all-time record for disposals in a game with 54. Paul Curtis kicked five goals, while Cooper Trembath snagged three.

Luke Davies-Uniacke has averaged 33 disposals in his past five matches against Richmond, while Richmond’s Jacob Hopper has had 25+ in two of his past three. Nick Larkey has kicked 13 goals in his past three matches against Richmond.

North Melbourne Kangaroos Form Analysis

North Melbourne made their best start to a season since 2016 and sat 3-1 after Round 4 before going down to the Brisbane Lions by 26 points in Gather Round. That was their first match against a finalist from last year, but they took some positives away from the game, competing with the premiers for large patches.

Cooper Trembath continues to be a revelation and booted two goals, taking his season tally to 10. The 2025 mid-season rookie was playing at suburban Blackburn this time a year ago and has kicked 2+ in four of five this season.

The Kangaroos’ improvement in 2026 has generally revolved around their pressure and stoppage work. They all but broke even in the stoppages and clearances with the Lions, despite going down 31-49 in hitouts with Tristan Xerri still serving out a suspension.

Harry Sheezel racked up another 30 disposals against the Lions and has hit 30+ in seven of his past eight, while Luke Davies-Uniacke had 27 disposals and seven clearances against the Lions.

North Melbourne Kangaroos Team News

Tristan Xerri is still a week away from returning from suspension. Callum Coleman-Jones has shouldered much of the responsibility in the ruck in his absence. The Kangaroos are unlikely to make too many changes to their line-up. Zac Fisher and Robert Hansen Jnr are among those knocking on the door with solid VFL form.

Richmond Tigers Form Analysis

Richmond are struggling so far in 2026 and sit at 0-5, with an elusive win seeming out of reach. They went close in Round 1 when going down by four points, but have been outclassed in recent weeks by Gold Coast (68 points), Fremantle (60), Port Adelaide (42) and GWS (56).

They have been hit hard by injuries, which is far from ideal with a young and developing list, and the pain has been felt on the scoreboard with the Tigers averaging just 60 points per game this season, the lowest of any side in the competition.

Against the Giants, they were smashed early at stoppages and conceded six goals from stoppage in the opening term. There were some positive signs with a mini revival in the second and third quarters, but poor execution left their inexperienced talls up forward with too much to do, limiting their ability to sustain scoreboard pressure.

Richmond Tigers Team News

Tom Lynch and Toby Nankervis remain on the sidelines. Samson Ryan is set to return from suspension, while Josh Gibcus and Hugo Ralphsmith are expected to be available to make their returns from injury.
