2026 Port Adelaide Power vs Adelaide Crows Preview
Adelaide will continue their charge towards the top four with a win in the Showdown against an injury depleted Port Adelaide outfit at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
The Crows sit in 5th position on the ladder and have won six of their past seven, while Port Adelaide are in 15th spot with a 5-10 win-loss record.
The Power have been brave in a number of their losses and went down by just one point to the Crows earlier this season, but they face an uphill battle in their quest to pull off an upset in this one.
The Crows have won six of the past seven meetings between the clubs and their profile stacks up strongly for this matchup. Their midfield has been able to generate scoreboard impact, their defence has tightened considerably and they are finding multiple avenues to goal each week. That balance should be difficult for Port Adelaide to contain over four quarters.
Jordan Dawson shapes as one of the key players in the
Round 16 match. The Adelaide captain has become increasingly dangerous around goal and his ability to push forward from stoppages gives the Crows another scoring option alongside Riley Thilthorpe, Darcy Fogarty, Josh Rachele and Izak Rankine. With Port Adelaide losing key defensive personnel in recent weeks, Adelaide's forward line looks capable of creating problems both in the air and at ground level.
The Crows also have the flexibility to match Port Adelaide around the contest. Sam Berry's emergence has added another hard-edged midfielder to the rotation, while James Peatling's defensive work allows Adelaide to limit opposition stars without sacrificing its own ball-winning capacity. That combination should prove important against a Port Adelaide midfield led by Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis.
Port Adelaide's effort and competitiveness cannot be questioned. Their season has featured a string of narrow losses and they have consistently been able to remain in games against stronger opposition. The challenge has been turning territory and possession into scoreboard pressure, particularly against disciplined defensive sides.
That issue looms as a significant factor in this matchup. Adelaide have placed a major emphasis on contest work and team defence in recent weeks and have been able to restrict opposition scoring opportunities.
Expect the Crows to cover the 20.5 point line and break away from the Power in the second half. Zak Butters is still likely to have a major influence for Port and few players have performed better in Showdowns. However, the injuries to Esava Ratugolea, Jack Lukosius and Ewan Mackinlay leave Port Adelaide with less support around their core group and place additional pressure on their leading players.
- Adelaide have won five of six since the two sides last met with those wins coming at an average of 36 points.
- The Crows have won the Showdown in six of the past seven occasions.
- Jordan Dawson has kicked 2+ goals in each of his past three matches.
- Zak Butters has had 30+ disposals in his past six matches against Adelaide
Head to Head
Adelaide have won the past three against Port Adelaide and six of the past seven. They were one-point winners in the Showdown back in Round 8 this season.
Standout player performances in the recent head to heads have come from;
- Zak Butters (Power) - 30+ disposals in his past six against the Crows at an average of 34
- James Peatling (Crows) - 25+ in his past two against the Power
- Jordan Dawson (Crows) - three goals in each of his past two against the Power
- Josh Rachele (Crows) - four goals in his most recent outing against Port Adelaide
Port Adelaide's win-loss record of 4-10 this season does not paint a true picture of just how competitive they have been. Five of their losses have been by three points or fewer, including the Round 14 match against Sydney when going down by three.
Last weekend they led Collingwood in the second quarter at the MCG before injuries took their toll late in the game, going down 52-78.
They had more inside 50s (55-47) and just one less scoring shot than Collingwood, but inaccuracy and inefficiency cost them when heading forward. Port Adelaide have a solid defence, ranking fifth for fewest points conceded, and despite being posted in 15th spot on the ladder, they have a percentage that is just shy of 100.
Zak Butters has been a model of consistency and had another strong performance against Collingwood despite receiving close attention. He has had 25+ disposals in his past four matches and had a streak of nine consecutive games with 30+ prior to that. Jason Horne-Francis continues to have a major impact and comes off another influential display, while he has kicked eight goals in his past four games.

Jack Lukosius' run with injuries continued and he will be sidelined with a calf strain, while Esava Ratugolea will be out of action for 12 months after suffering a patella injury. Ewan Mackinlay is also out for a lengthy period.
Will Brodie, Will Lorenz and Jack Watkins have some solid form in the SANFL and will be considered, while Brandon Zerk-Thatcher is likely to return to strengthen the defence.
Adelaide have a 9-5 win-loss record and have begun to click into gear, having won six of their past seven matches. Their only loss in that period came against Hawthorn by nine points and they have since knocked over Geelong by a point, the Western Bulldogs by 57 and Melbourne by 17.
The win over Melbourne highlighted Adelaide's growing maturity. They trailed for much of the contest before finishing strongly, generating 10 scoring shots to one in the final quarter and restricting the Demons to just 62 points.
Josh Rachele proved a constant threat with three goals, while Jordan Dawson kicked two and has now booted multiple goals in three consecutive matches. Mark Keane made an impressive return in defence with 22 disposals, 10 marks and nine intercept possessions, while Sam Berry continued his excellent season with 24 disposals, seven clearances and eight score involvements.
Josh Rachele leads Adelaide's goal-kicking table with 25 goals from 16 matches this season and has seven in the past two rounds, while Jordan Dawson has had 25+ disposals in five of his past eight and has booted 2+ goals in each of his past three matches.
