Austria and Jordan face off for the first time, with Austria entering as strong favorites thanks to an impressive track record in 2023-24 under Ralf Rangnick. Austria won 9 of their last 11 games, including all matches this year, and regularly keeps clean sheets. Marcel Sabitzer is in top form, scoring 3 goals in 3 recent games. Jordan, making their World Cup debut, have struggled in friendlies and lack experience at this level. The key recommendation is to back Austria to win to nil, and consider Sabitzer as a potential scorer.

Austria are way above Jordan in terms of quality and have been doing great under Ralf Rangnick. I will back them to see off the Asian debutants while keeping a clean sheet.

Key Stats

  • Austria have won 9 of their last 11 matches.
  • Austria have won to nil in 3 of their last 5 matches.
  • Marcel Sabitzer has scored 3 goals in his last 3 matches for Austria.
  • Jordan have lost their last 2 matches.

No Previous Meetings

This is going to be the first head to head match between Austria and Jordan.

Austria Won All Their Matches This Year

Austria had a great run in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, topping Group H with 19 out of possible 24 points ahead of Bosnia & Herzegovina, Romania, Cyprus and San Marino with a 22-4 goal difference.

Their performances and results were fantastic in March friendlies too, starting with a 5-1 victory against Ghana (allowed just one shot on target), followed by a 1-0 win over South Korea a couple of days later (Marcel Sabitzer the sole scorer).

Austrians opted for just one test game before the World Cup 2026, locking horns against Tunisia. Even though their Konrad Laimer was sent off in the first half, Austria won here 1-0, Sabitzer finding the net once again.

First World Cup Appearance for Jordan

Four victories, four draws and two defeats in the Asian WC Qualifiers were enough for Jordan to finish second in Group B and secure their first ever appearance at the final tournament.

After making it to the FIFA Arab Cup finals where they lost to Morocco 3-2 in extra-time in December, they played two friendlies against Costa Rica and Nigeria in March, both clashes ending in 2-2 draws.

Their last two test games earlier this month were poor though, suffering back to back defeats against Switzerland 4-1 and Colombia 2-0. Odeh Al Fakhouri was the sole scorer.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Austria (4-2-3-1) Alexander Schlager; Stefan Posch, Philipp Lienhart, David Alaba, Romano Schmid; Xaver Schlager, Nicolas Seiwald; Konrad Laimer, Marcel Sabitzer, Michael Gregoritsch; Marko Arnautovic

Christoph Baumgartner suffered a thigh injury recently and will miss the tournament completely. Maximilian Wober didn't make it to the final cut even though he played both March friendlies.

Real Madrid's David Alaba is the captain, while Marko Arnautovic has the most appearances for the national team on this roster 133 and also the top scorer with 47 goals.

Jordan (3-4-2-1) Odeh Fakhoury; Mohammad Abualnadi, Yazan Al-Arab, Yazeed Abulaila; Moussa Al Tamari, Noor Al Rawabdeh, Nizar Al-Rashdan, Yazan Haddad; Taha, Ali Olwan; Al-Rosan

Ali Olwan is expected to be the biggest attacking threat here, netting 29 goals in 66 appearances for the national team so far. Jordan have no reported injuries ahead of this match.

Verdict

Jordan struggled in their recent friendlies, lack experience of playing on the biggest stage, and have just one player featuring in European club football. Austria’s results have been fantastic over the last 12 months, so I am backing Das Team to win to nil here.

Another bet worth considering is Marcel Sabitzer to score anytime. He has netted three goals in his last three appearances for Austria and is expected to spend plenty of time in and around the box.
