Norway and France face off for Group I supremacy at the FIFA World Cup, each having already secured a place in the round of 32. Both teams are in impressive attacking form, with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe each scoring four goals in two matches. However, both sides have shown defensive vulnerabilities, failing to keep clean sheets in recent games. France holds the historical edge with seven wins in 14 encounters. With both teams expected to be highly motivated and attack-focused, expect goals from both sides.

It is a straight shoot-out for top spot in Group I of the FIFA World Cup as Norway battle France at Boston Stadium.

Both teams have looked sharp in attack in their two fixtures and can be backed to serve up a thrilling contest.

Key Stats

  • Norway have scored in their last four matches in all competitions.
  • Norway have conceded in their last four matches in all competitions.
  • France have scored in their last five matches in all competitions.
  • France have conceded in four of their last five matches in all competitions.

Upper Hand for the French

France have the upper hand in this fixture, with seven wins and three draws while Norway have picked up four victories in the last 14 meetings.

The most recent clash was a friendly in 2014, which ended 4-0 in favour of the French.

Norway Maintaining Momentum

Norway were victorious in their previous Group I fixture, claiming a 3-2 win over Senegal. Erling Haaland continued his scoring run, with another brace after Marcus Pedersen opened the scoring late in the first half.

The Norwegians have picked up two wins in the competition after kicking off their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Iraq. A place in the round of 32 is guaranteed, but manager Stale Solbakken will be keen to finish as group winners.

Norway are driven by the prolific Haaland, who has found the net four times in two matches. While the attack has looked sharp, they have struggled to keep things tight at the back and are without a clean sheet in their last four matches in all competitions.

Mbappe Driving France

France are coming off a 3-0 victory over Iraq in their previous Group I fixture. They proved too strong for the Iraqis, with Kylian Mbappe netting a brace while Ousmane Dembele was also on target.

That was the second win in the group for France, who began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Senegal. Didier Deschamps' team have already qualified for the round of 32 but need a win to finish top of the standings.

France are driven by Mbappe, who has four goals in the competition and leads an attack that has scored in the last five matches in all competitions. However, Les Bleus have been unconvincing at the back and are without a clean sheet in four of those fixtures.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Norway (4-3-3): Orjan Nyland; Marcus Pedersen, Kristoffer Ajer, Torbjorn Heggem, David Wolfe; Sander Berge, Fredrik Aursnes, Martin Odergaard; Antonio Nusa, Alexander Sorloth, Erling Haaland.

Pedersen should earn a start in this one after coming on for Julian Ryerson, who went off injured early in the first half against Senegal. Haaland is expected to lead the line once again, while Ajer should continue in defence.

France (4-2-3-1): Mike Maignan, Jules Kounde, Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba, Lucas Digne; Manu Kone, Adrien Rabiot; Ousmane Dembele, Rayan Cherki, Desire Doue; Kylian Mbappe.

France could make a few changes to the team with Cherki pushing to earn his first start in the tournament. Doue could also return to the team after sitting out the win over Iraq.

Verdict

With top spot up for grabs in Group I, Norway and France are likely to be fired up for this one.

An open contest is expected here, and given the attacking quality on display, both teams can be backed to score here.
