Jamus vs Rayon Sports CECAFA Kagame Cup Preview

Jamus of South Sudan and Rwanda's Rayon Sports will be eyeing a place in the final when they clash in the semi-final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

Both teams had solid group stage campaigns, but the Rwandans were perfect and will look to carry that momentum into this clash.

Key Stats

  • Rayon Sports won their three group stage matches.
  • Rayon Sports kept clean sheets in all three group stage matches.
  • Jamus failed to score in their second group stage fixture.

No Previous Meetings

This will be the first ever meeting between Jamus and Rayon Sports.

All Business for Jamus

Jamus come into this clash off the back of a 2-1 victory over Mogadishu City in their previous fixture. They fought back from a goal down, with second-half efforts from Mario Taban and Laurent Ramazani earning them the win.

That result maintained an unbeaten Kagame Cup record for Jamus, who are enjoying a solid campaign. The South Sudan side finished top of Group B to secure a place in the semi-finals.

While Jamus will be pleased to be in the semi-finals, they have not been overly convincing in the tournament. They fell behind last time out and also failed to score against Simba in their second group game.

Smooth Sailing for Rayon Sports

Rayon Sports concluded their group stage campaign with a 1-0 victory over Al Hilal Omdurman. Attisso Kodjo struck the only goal early in the first half, and they were able to hold on for the win.

That result means Rayon Sports are the only team that finished the group stage with a perfect record. They are also the only Rwandan side left in the tournament and will be keen to carry their momentum into the semi-finals.

At the heart of Rayon Sports’ fine showings at the Kagame Cup is a solid defence that is yet to concede a single goal. They have also taken advantage of the fact that the tournament is being hosted in Rwanda.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Jamus (4-3-3): Majak Mawith; Haniff Wesonga, Mohamed Kesra, Jean Ngumbi, Thomas Bawak Eta; Gosim Elenga, Mario Taban; Dhata Stephen, Kevin Muhire, Rodriguez Mfegue, Laurent Ramazani.

Taban could earn a start on Tuesday after coming off the bench to spark Jamus’ comeback last time out. Ngumbi is expected to feature in midfield while Ramazani is set to continue in attack.

Rayon Sports (4-3-3): Dande Junior; Elie Ganijuru, Emmanuel Nshimiyimana, Nshuti Didier, Charles Tchouplaou; Akbar Muderi, Ibrahim Djingarey, Issa Djiguiba; Attisso Kodjo, Elie Iradukunda, Junior Kameni.

Rayon Sports have no injuries or suspensions heading into this clash and are not expected to make too many changes. Nshimiyimana and Didier should continue their central defensive partnership while Kodjo is set to feature in attack once again.

Verdict

Jamus have not been overly convincing at the Kagame Cup as they were troubled by Simba in their second group stage fixture.

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports remain perfect and with the vocal home support, should have the upper hand on Tuesday.
