Japan kick off their campaign in the football event at the Asian Games with a Group A clash against Hong Kong.

Japan are returning to action for the first time since winning the AFC U23 Cup back in January. They eased to a 4-0 victory over China in the final, with Kosei Ogura netting a brace while Yuto Ozeki and Ryunosuke Sato were also on target.

Things have been particularly smooth for Japan lately as they are unbeaten in their last 10 in all competitions. They have picked up eight wins in this run and manager Go Oiwa will be keen to carry that form into the Asian Games.

The win over Guam was a rare result for Hong Kong, who have found things a bit difficult lately. Tsang Chiu Tat’s team have lost four of their last six matches in all competitions.

Hong Kong have been at the receiving end of some one-sided results lately, with 4-0 defeats to Uzbekistan and Iran among their recent results. They are also unconvincing in attack, failing to score in four of their last six matches in all competitions.
