Rennes and PSG face off in a highly anticipated Ligue 1 battle on 15 August 2026. PSG remain Ligue 1 favourites, but Rennes’ recent home form and attacking prowess—led by top scorer Estéban Lepaul—make this a potentially high-scoring encounter. Recent matches between the sides have featured plenty of goals, with both teams likely to score. The recommended bets are BTTS (both teams to score) and over 3.5 goals, reflecting the expectation of an open, attacking contest.

PSG are coming off a shock 1-0 defeat at Lens in the Super Cup but rarely go two games without scoring. Rennes have the weapons to score at home which should ensure an open and attacking clash.

HTH

PSG have won four of the previous five encounters against Rennes, leading the HTH 45-24 alongside 18 draws.

The Parisians lost 3-1 in Rennes last season despite ending the contest with 3.59-1.36 xG.

Rennes Aiming for Top 3 Spot

Rennes improved after Franck Haise became the new manager in February. They won eight of 12 games, finishing sixth in Ligue 1, just one win away from third position.

There have been plenty of goals scored and conceded in the preseason, including victories over Guingamp and Club Brugge.

The Brittany club are coming off three straight defeats, scoring four goals with eight conceded.

PSG Chasing Sixth Straight Ligue 1 Title

Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance continued last season, claiming their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title and winning back-to-back Champions League titles.

Luis Enrique’s side began the new campaign by beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup. Désiré Doué assisted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and scored himself in an impressive performance.

The Parisians are coming off a 1-0 defeat at Lens in the French Super Cup. They played against 10 men for over 40 minutes but couldn’t capitalise on 69% possession and 23-8 shots.

Enrique was happy despite the result: "I’m very pleased with what I saw in the first half, but the score was 1-0. Football is incredible, it’s so unfair. But we also have to congratulate our opponents, Lens, because they scored one more goal than us and, in the end, that’s what matters in a match."

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Rennes (4-3-3) Brice Samba; Przemyslaw Frankowski, Charlie Cresswell, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, Quentin Merlin; Adrien Thomasson, Valentin Rongier, Djaoui Cissé; Mousa Al-Tamari, Estéban Lepaul, Ludovic Blas

Mahdi Camara is suspended with Adrien Thomasson to start in midfield.

Jérémy Jacquet was sold to Liverpool for over €60m, English centre-back Charlie Cresswell coming in from Toulouse on a loan deal.

PSG (4-2-3-1) Matvey Safonov; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Lucas Hernández; João Neves, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz; Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Nuno Mendes starts a three match ban with Lucas Hernández or Lucas Digne to start at left-back.

Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye have been linked with moves away from the club, expect both players to miss out as a result.

Maghnes Akliouche, Mika Godts and Ferran Torres have been signed to reinforce the attack with Kang-in Lee, Randal Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos moving in the opposite direction.

Verdict

Rennes have a strong attack led by Ligue 1 top scorer Estéban Lepaul and will fancy their chances here. I going to avoid the short odds on PSG and back BTTS alongside over 3.5 goals.
