Norway’s Confidence is High 


Norway had one of the most successful World Cup qualifiers in nation’s history, winning all eight games to finish top of Group I ahead of Italy, Israel, Estonia and Moldova with a 37-5 goal difference. 

They crushed Italy 4-1 as visitors in the final round in late 2025, Erling Haaland stealing the spotlight by netting a brace.  

Norway have played two friendly matches so far in 2026 with heavy rotations, registering a 2-1 defeat against Netherlands and a goalless draw against Switzerland. 

Swedes Struggled in the Qualifiers 


Sweden had disastrous results in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, collecting just two points in six matches in Group B to finish last behind Switzerland, Kosovo and Slovenia, scoring only four goals. 

Thanks to their Nations League accomplishments, they were granted a spot in the playoffs. In the semifinals, the Swedes were heavily carried by Viktor Gyokeres who scored a hat-trick against Ukraine, a game they won 3-1. 

In the playoff finals, Sweden locked horns against Poland at home and celebrated a 3-2 victory, Gyokeres being the hero once again scoring the winning goal just before stoppage time.
