Switzerland are tipped to claim victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina in their upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifier. After a dominant but wasteful 1-1 draw against Qatar, Switzerland’s offensive strength and solid form make them clear favorites. In contrast, Bosnia & Herzegovina have struggled to create chances, despite a gritty draw with Canada. Expect Switzerland to secure all three points, with Dan Ndoye a likely goalscorer after several chances in their opener.

Switzerland deserved more than a 1-1 draw against Qatar in the opening round, having missed plenty of chances to score. Bosnia & Herzegovina are a limited side offensively, so I am backing the Red Crosses to claim all three points on Thursday.

Key Stats

  • Switzerland have won 8 of their last 14 matches.
  • Switzerland’s Dan Ndoye had 6 shots against Qatar.

One Previous Meeting

These two nations played one friendly match so far in March 2016.

Switzerland Tagged Favorites

Switzerland are coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw against Qatar in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opening match where they were tagged massive favorites to take all three points.

The Red Crosses had a strong start, Breel Embolo converting a penalty in the 17th minute, and they pretty much controlled everything (3.20-0.60 xG, 68% possession, 26-6 shots) but conceded deep in stoppage time.

Murat Yakin’s side had a great run in the WC 2026 qualifiers, not losing a single match, while also leaving good impression in recent friendlies earlier this month, beating Jordan 4-1 and drawing against Australia 1-1.

Dragons Struggle Offensively

Like their upcoming opponents, Bosnia & Herzegovina also have one point on their account from the opening match, holding favored co-hosts Canada to a 1-1 draw in Toronto.

Jovo Lukic put them ahead in that clash with a header in the 21st minute, after which the Dragons placed a strong focus on defending. They cleared three balls off the line but ultimately conceded in the 78th minute. Ermedin Demirovic missed a huge chance early in the second half to double their lead.

Sergej Barbarez’s side struggled in their pre-tournament friendlies, recording a goalless draw against North Macedonia in Sarajevo before drawing 1-1 with Panama in St Louis, where defender Nikola Katic scored their only goal.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Switzerland (3-4-2-1) Gregor Kobel; Nico Elvedi, Manuel Akanji, Ricardo Rodriguez; Silvan Widmer, Remo Freuler, Granit Xhaka, Ruben Vargas; Dan Ndoye, Michel Aebischer; Breel Embolo

Breel Embolo has the most goals scorer for the national team on this roster (25), while Granit Xhaka has the most appearances (147). They have no reported injuries ahead of this match.

Bosnia & Herzegovina (4-4-2) Nikola Vasilj; Amar Dedic, Nikola Katic, Dennis Hadzikadunic, Sead Kolasinac; Benjamin Tahirovic, Ivan Sunjic, Amir Hadziahmetovic, Esmir Bajraktarevic; Edin Dzeko, Ermedin Demirovic

Latest reports state Edin Dzeko has recovered from a shoulder injury and should lead the attack instead of Jovo Lukic who scored against Canada. Bosnia's playoff hero Haris Tabakovic is still sidelined and could make an appearance in the third round.

Verdict

Bosnia & Herzegovina battled fiercely for that point in the opening clash against Canada, but I don’t think that will be enough against a stronger Switzerland side on Thursday. I am backing the Red Crosses to win here.

Also, Dan Ndoye was one of Switzerland’s most active players in the opening-round clash against Qatar, firing six shots and missing one huge chance to score. I will back him to get on the scoresheet this time.
