The UAE face Oman in the Gulf Cup semifinal at Jeddah after topping Group B with confidence-boosting performances, including big wins over Yemen and Bahrain and a draw with Qatar. Recent head-to-head stats show both teams have split victories. Oman secured their semifinal place following a last-gasp 3-1 win over Kuwait and qualify through the drawing of lots. Squad updates reveal UAE will recall key players, while Oman's Nasser Al-Rawahi should feature following his brace. The recommendation favors a UAE victory, given their current form and momentum.

UAE vs Oman Predictions

UAE face Oman at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah for a place in the Gulf Cup final.

Zlatko Dalic’s side topped Group B unbeaten and should have the momentum to see off their Omani opponents.

I have my stake on the UAE to win Saturday’s semifinal.

UAE Backed to Reach Gulf Cup Final

  • UAE won 2 of their last 3 matches
  • UAE won 3 of their last 6 matches against Oman
  • Oman lost 2 of their last 5 matches

UAE and Oman Share Recent H2H Honours

The UAE and Oman have met on three occasions since 2020. Both nations claimed one victory, while one game finished level.

Their most recent meeting came in a World Cup qualifier last Octoberr. The UAE claimed a 2-1 comeback win at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

UAE Top Group B After Qatar Draw

The UAE secured top spot in Group B with a 1-1 draw against Qatar on Wednesday.

Almoez Ali put the Qataris ahead in the first half before Ali Saleh secured a somewhat fortunate draw for Maroon One.

A much-changed UAE side were unfortunate to secure only a point after creating the better chances in Jeddah. Zlatko Dalic’s side had 12 shots to Qatar’s four and finished with a significantly higher xG total (1.47-0.55).

Wednesday’s share of the spoils left both nations on seven points, with the Emiratis topping the section thanks to a superior goal difference.

The Whites have shown some impressive form en route to the Gulf Cup semifinal. Dalic’s men opened their campaign with a 4-0 win over Yemen before easing to a 3-0 victory against reigning champions Bahrain.

Since the end of last year, the UAE have lost just one of eight games, while they should take confidence from their World Cup qualifying win against Oman 12 months ago.

Oman Survive Dramatic Group A Finish

Oman secured their place in the Gulf Cup semifinal after coming from behind to beat Kuwait 3-1 in their final Group A fixture on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Nasser Al-Rawahi struck twice in the second half before substitute Musab Al-Shaqsy completed the comeback.

Tuesday's final scoreline did not tell the whole story. Kuwait registered more shots (15-13) and finished with a higher xG total (1.64-1.29).

Despite failing to win either of their first two Group A games, Oman finished dead level with Iraq and reached the final four after the drawing of lots in Jeddah.

Tarik Sektioui's side had taken only one point from their first two fixtures. Al-Rawahi rescued a 1-1 draw with Iraq before a 3-0 reversal against tournament hosts Saudi Arabia.

Recent results in competitive fixtures have not been especially encouraging for the Reds failed to win ten of their last 12 matches (excluding friendlies).

UAE vs Oman Squads & Team News

Goalkeepers: Hamad Al-Meqbaali, Khalid Eisa, Fahad Al-Dhanhani
Defenders: Ruben Canedo, Lucas Pimenta, Sasa Ivkovic, Ala Zhir, Khalifa Al Hammadi, Erik, Marcus Meloni, Khaled Ibrahim, Zayed Sultan
Midfielders: Nicolas Gimenez, Harib Abdalla, Fabio Lima, Abdulla Hamad, Luanzinho, Isam Faiz, Mamadou Coulibaly

Dalic is expected to recall several first-team regulars after making ten changes against Qatar.

Guilherme Bala, Bruno Oliveira, Zayed Sultan and Ousmane Camara are among those likely to come back into the first XI.

Yuri Cesar has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Speaking to the media before Saturday’s semifinal, Dalic praised his side but called for focus on the challenge ahead.

“I am pleased with what we produced in the previous matches, but our focus is now entirely on tomorrow's match. We are approaching the tournament step by step, and our aim is to continue performing with the same spirit and determination.”

“We know that the match against Oman will be extremely difficult,” he added. “We have studied the opponent well, as they produced an impressive performance in the last 20 minutes against Kuwait and managed to win 3-1.”

Oman Squad

Goalkeepers: Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini, Ibrahim Al-Rajhi, Ahmed Al-Rawahi
Defenders: Ghanim Al-Habashi, Thani Al-Rushaidi, Musab Al-Shaqsy, Ahmed Al-Khamisi, Amjad Al-Harthi, Ali Al-Busaidi, Mahmood Al-Mushaifri

Head coach Sektioui has no reported injury issues for Saturday's Gulf Cup semifinal showdown.

Nasser Al-Rawahi should retain his place after scoring twice against Kuwait.

“We are ready mentally, physically and in terms of health for the match, and we still have one final training session ahead of us. The players will take to the pitch with their hearts and minds alongside the Omani people, in order to bring them joy.”

“Everyone was expecting Oman to go out, but football for me is a school of life that goes beyond the boundaries of the green rectangle, and every day it gives us lessons related to matters bigger than football,” he added.

Verdict

The UAE put in some excellent performances in the group phase, while Oman were somewhat fortunate to secure their place in Saturday's semifinal.

I have my stake on the UAE to claim victory at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium.
