USA vs Mexico Predictions & Tips - Goals Expected in Friendly Fixture

The USA faces Mexico in a high-profile Texas friendly, with recent form suggesting a lively encounter. The USA's attack has been prolific, netting at least two goals in most matches and famously winning back-to-back games. While Mexico is still searching for their first win under coach Marquez, both sides have shown a tendency to score and concede. Key absentees and rotation make the lineups interesting, but the consensus prediction favors both teams scoring and the USA likely scoring at least twice.

USA vs Mexico Predictions

USA and Mexico renew their rivalry in a likely entertaining friendly fixture at AT&T Stadium this weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino's free-scoring side can test their local rivals in a game where both teams should get on the scoresheet.

BTTS is my first pick, while I also fancy the US to score two goals or more.

Goals Likely in Texas Friendly

  • USA have seen BTTS in 12 of their last 15 matches
  • USA scored 2+ goals in 11 of their last 14 matches
  • USA scored 2+ goals in 4 of their last 6 home matches against Mexico
  • Mexico have seen BTTS in their last 3 matches
  • Mexico scored 1+ goals in 15 of their last 16 matches

USA Hold Recent H2H Advantage

USA and Mexico have met on nine occasions since 2020. The Americans won five of those fixtures, while Mexico picked up two wins. Two games finished deadlocked.

Mexico earned bragging rights in their most recent meeting, coming from behind to win the 2025 Gold Cup final 2-1.

USA Attack Impresses in Back-to-Back Victories

USA come into Saturday's Mexico showdown after a thrilling 4-2 victory against Chile in St. Louis on Tuesday.

Sebastian Berhalter put Pochettino’s side ahead, but goals either side of half-time from Diego Ulloa and Maximiliano Gutierrez gave the visitors a shock lead.

Julian Hall levelled a topsy-turvy contest before Chris Richards and Mathis Albert secured a second successive four-goal win for the hosts.

Teenage forward Albert’s strike made him the youngest player to score for the Stars and Stripes.

Both sides created plenty of chances at Energizer Park. USA registered 18 shots and nine efforts on target, while Chile had 17 attempts, forcing eight saves from Chris Brady.

In a bad-tempered contest, a late brawl broke out after Chile’s Leandro Hernandez appeared to kick USA goalkeeper Brian Schwake as he held the ball.

Wednesday’s dramatic four-goal win followed a similarly impressive 4-1 victory against Peru in Orlando three days earlier.

The Americans have been in excellent form in the forward areas. Pochettino’s side scored 23 goals in their last nine fixtures and averaged 2.42 goals per game across 14 matches since October 2025.

The hosts have been less convincing at the back, though. Peru scored from one of only two efforts on target, while Chile struck the woodwork twice in Wednesday’s 4-2 defeat.

Mexico Await First Marquez Win

Mexico make the trip to Texas after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Peru in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Jairo Velez gave the Peruvians a surprise first-half advantage before Victor Guzman headed Rafa Marquez's men level shortly after the interval.

In a frustrating and low-key contest, Mexico had 64% possession, but created little of note in the final third. El Tri managed only nine shots with just three on target.

A final xG total of 0.45 underlined the lack of clear-cut opportunities against a Peruvian side beaten 4-1 by the USA just three days earlier.

Mexico put in a stronger performance in Marquez’s first match in charge - a 1-1 draw against Colombia last weekend. Luis Suarez opened the scoring before Gilberto Mora rescued a point with a fine individual goal.

A strong run of form under former boss Javier Aguirre saw Mexico lose only one of 13 internationals before this week’s friendlies.

USA vs Mexico Squads & Team News

USA Squad

Goalkeepers: Matt Freese, Diego Kochen, Chris Brady, Brian Schwake
Defenders: Sergino Dest, Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson, Auston Trusty, Miles Robinson, Peyton Miller, Alex Freeman, George Campbell, Neil Pierre, Frankie Westfield
Midfielders: Tyler Adams, Giovanni Reyna, Yunus Musah, Zavier Gozo, Sebastian Berhalter, Brooklyn Raines, Malik Tillman, Adri Mehmeti, Mathis Albert
Forwards: Cavan Sullivan, Damion Downs, Julian Hall, Justin Ellis, Cole Campbell

Pochettino is expected to bring several senior players back into the starting selection after making ten changes against Chile.

Tyler Adams, Chris Richards and Malik Tillman are among those set to return to the first XI.

Speaking after the feisty win against Chile, Richards explained why he had confronted Leandro Hernandez:

“Obviously, they're frustrated. They're losing the game, deservedly. But then, if they want to foul our goalie, want to kick him when he's on the ground?

“They're on our home soil, so that's not going to fly. Regardless of who comes in, I think the first thing to buy into is family, and I think you've seen that.”

Mexico Squad

Goalkeepers: Raul Rangel, Alex Padilla, Oscar Garcia
Defenders: Jorge Sanchez, Israel Reyes, Mateo Chavez, Jesus Gallardo, Cesar Montes, Johan Vasquez, Victor Guzman, Everardo Lopez, Diego Campillo
Midfielders: Luis Chavez, Obed Vargas, Alvaro Fidalgo, Alan Cervantes, Erik Lira, Gilberto Mora, Orbelin Pineda, Jeremy Marquez, Luis Romo, Denzell Garcia
Forwards: Roberto Alvarado, Hirving Lozano, Santiago Gimenez, German Berterame, Armando Gonzalez, Hugo Camberos, Santiago Sandoval, Isaias Violante

Mexico boss Marquez is likely to revert to much of the same XI that began last weekend’s draw against Colombia.

Injured strikers Raul Jimenez and Julian Quinones are notable absentees for the Mexicans this weekend.

Speaking after the draw against Peru, Marquez explained his decision to make multiple changes to his first XI.

"I wanted to see players in these types of games and situations. It's part of the process," Marquez said in his post-match news conference.

"I want to see young players to see their potential, see what they need to keep developing. There obviously are things to improve with only a bit of time to have improved, but I'm happy and satisfied, but we have to keep working."

Verdict

Both nations should be confident of scoring in a likely fiery friendly fixture in Texas.

BTTS is my first choice, with a second stake placed on the US to score two goals or more.
