Canada vs Peru Predictions & Tips - Hosts Backed for Narrow Friendly Win in Montreal

Canada hosts Peru in a key friendly at Stade Saputo, Montreal. Coming off a solid win against Chile, Jesse Marsch's squad looks poised for another victory as Peru struggles defensively. Canada has been in strong form, winning four of their last seven, while Peru has lost seven of their last twelve. The sides have split two matches since 2010, but Canada’s recent performances make them slight favorites. Recommended bets: Canada to win with over 1.5 goals, and both teams to score (BTTS) is also likely.

Canada vs Peru Predictions

Canada and Peru meet at Stade Saputo in Montreal on Saturday in the second of two homecoming friendlies for Jesse Marsch's side.

The hosts edged past Chile last weekend, and I fancy Canada to claim an entertaining friendly victory.

Canada to win with over 1.5 goals is my best bet, with Peru also capable of scoring this weekend.

Canada Can Edge Past Peru

  • Canada won 4 of their last 7 matches (friendly fixtures)
  • Canada have seen over 1.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches
  • Peru lost 7 of their last 12 matches
  • Peru have seen over 1.5 goals in their last 10 matches
  • Peru have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 10 matchesada vs Peru Predictions

Canada and Peru Level in Recent H2H

Canada and Peru have met on one occasion since 2020. Canada claimed a 1-0 win at the 2024 Copa America while Peru secured a 2-0 friendly win 14 years earlier.

Canada Return Home With Chile Victory

Canada head to Montreal after a narrow 1-0 win against Chile in Toronto in their first match since the World Cup.

Jonathan David’s first-half goal proved the difference before Lucas Cepeda and Gabriel Suazo were sent off for the visitors.

Marsch's men dominated the contest but were unable to add to their lead against nine-man opponents. Canada had 66% possession and 22 shots, with an xG total of 2.60.

The Canucks had not played since their historic run to the World Cup knockout phase for the first time this summer. They beat Qatar 6-0 in the group phase before a 1-0 win against South Africa secured a place in the last 16.

A 3-0 defeat against Morocco ended their hopes of a place in the quarter-finals.

That reversal was one of only two Canadian defeats in their last 14 fixtures in the past 12 months.

Peru Improve Against Mexico

Peru make the trip north to Montreal after a 1-1 draw against Mexico in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Jairo Velez put Mano Menezes's side ahead before Victor Guzman headed in a second-half equaliser.

In a tight contest, Menezes's men had just five shots and an xG total of 0.29, while Mexico managed nine attempts and an xG of 0.45.

Last weekend's 4-1 defeat against the USA had exposed more serious defensive problems. Malik Tillman and Sebastian Berhalter were on the scoresheet in a dominant Stars and Stripes success.

La Blanquirroja have now played ten friendlies in the past year, losing five and conceding an average of 1.8 goals per game. Peru only failed to score in one of those ten fixtures.

Canada vs Peru Squads & Team News

Canada Squad

Goalkeepers: Owen Goodman, James Pantemis, Dayne St. Clair
Defenders: Richard Chukwu, Luc de Fougerolles, Alfie Jones, Jovan Ivanisevic, Richie Laryea, Ralph Priso, Niko Sigur
Midfielders: Tajon Buchanan, Mathieu Choiniere, Stephen Eustaquio, Junior Hoilett, Liam Millar, Samuel Piette, Nathan Saliba, Jacob Shaffelburg
Forwards: Jonathan David, Promise David, Daniel Jebbison, Cyle Larin, Tani Oluwaseyi, Jacen Russell-Rowe

Canada boss Marsch is expected to make one or two changes to his first XI this weekend.

Stephen Eustaquio and Promise David are hoping to earn recalls after coming off the bench against Chile. Tani Oluwaseyi and Samuel Piette are also in contention to come into the side.

Alphonso Davies and goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau miss out for personal reasons, while Derek Cornelius, Alistair Johnston and Jeevan Badwal are injury absentees.

Marsch criticised his side after their narrow win against Chile last weekend.

"Chile makes it hard," Marsch said. "I don't think [our] second half was very good.

"Chile remained aggressive even down two men. The way to make them pay was to be cleaner with the ball and cleaner with ideas and actions around the goal.

"We were too wild, not enough shots on frame, not enough final actions with good connections."

Peru Squad

Goalkeepers: Pedro Gallese, Matias Cordova, Diego Romero
Defenders: Alfonso Barco, Marcos Lopez, Miguel Araujo, Erick Noriega, Marco Huaman, Renzo Garces, Oliver Sonne, Cesar Inga, Matias Zegarra
Midfielders: Oslimg Mora, Jesus Pretell, Jairo Velez, Rodrigo Vilca, Wilder Cartagena, Jairo Concha, Yoshimar Yotun, Andre Carrillo
Forwards: Adrian Ugarriza, Gianluca Lapadula, Alex Valera, Bassco Soyer, Piero Magallanes, Jhonny Vidales

Peruvian boss Menezes has no new injury issues this weekend.

Christofer Gonzales (knee), Jose Rivera (muscle) and Kenji Cabrera (foot) are notable absentees from the Peruvian squad.

Jairo Velez is likely to keep his place after scoring against USA in New Jersey.

Verdict

Canada have enough quality to claim victory against a leaky Peruvian side that has struggled in the past two years.

A home win with over 1.5 goals is my first pick, while I also like the chances of BTTS.
