Carlos Alcaraz has been involved in two tiebreaks in Melbourne and is yet to face Corentin Moutet.

The Frenchman is a tricky opponent who take the World No.1 to at least one tiebreak at the Australian Open.

Carlos Alcaraz won eight titles last year, reaching 11 finals with six of them coming against Jannik Sinner. He beat Sinner to claim the French Open and US Open, either side of a defeat at Wimbledon.

The Spaniard started the season with a new coach following the departure of Juan Carlos Ferrero. Samuel Lopez took over and made some adjustment to the World No.1’s serve.

Alcaraz had few problems in the first round in Melbourne, his serve broken once in a 6-3 7-6 6-2 victory over Adam Walton. He had a slow start against Yannick Hanfmann before coming home to win 7-6 6-3 6-2, his serve broken once again.

Moutet Up Against the Odds


Corentin Moutet reached two finals last year, losing in Mallorca and Almaty. He became a Top 50 player for the first time in July, climbing as high as 31 in November.

The temperamental Frenchman didn’t play any warm up events before the Australian Open. He beat Tristan Schoolkate 6-4 7-6 6-3 and was leading 3-6 6-1 6-3 2-0 when Michael Zheng retired.

The 26-year-old has a 2-17 record against Top 10 players, defeating Holger Rune on clay and Taylor Fritz on grass.

Verdict

Carlos Alcaraz is constantly a short priced favourite so I am continuing with the tiebreak markets. The World No.1 has never met Corentin Moutet who can take one set all the way.
