Prizmic Breaks Into Top 100
Dino Prizmic is 23-8 this year, a lot of those victories coming in qualifiers. He became a Top 100 player in April after reaching the Monza Challenger final.
The 20-year-old failed to get past the second round in five ATP Tour events before breaking through in Madrid. He took out Matteo Berrettini and Ben Shelton on his way to the third round where he went down 2-6 6-4 6-3 to Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Prizmic cruised through the qualifiers in Rome, defeating Chris Rodesch 6-4 6-3 and Federico Bondioli 6-2 6-4. He kept it going in the first round, beating Marton Fucsovics 6-4 6-3 after winning 60% of his 2nd serves and saving 1/3 break points.
Djokovic Chasing Seventh Title in Rome
Novak Djokovic has competed in only two events this year, starting at the Australian Open where he went close to winning the title.
The Serbian had some luck to reach the semi-finals where he overcame Jannik Sinner in 5 sets. He won the first set against Carlos Alcaraz in the final, eventually going down 2-6 6-2 6-3 7-5 in just over three hours.
The 38-year-old was last seen in Indian Wells where he needed 3 sets to get past Kamil Majchrzak and Aleksandar Kovacevic. He went out in the fourth round after a 4-6 6-4 7-6 defeat to Jack Draper.
Verdict
Dino Prizmic took a set off Novak Djokovic two years ago when he was ranked 187. The youngster has won 11 of his last 13 matches and can keep this one closer than the odds suggest.
