Sebastian Ofner vs Alex Michelsen Live Stream & Betting Tips - Struggling Players Clash at the Italian Open
Sebastian Ofner faces Alex Michelsen in the opening round of the 2026 Italian Open. Ofner has struggled recently, losing in the first round of 9 of his last 10 ATP events, while Michelsen has found it difficult to adapt to clay, losing 7 of his previous 9 matches on the surface. Both players have strengths—Ofner’s recent Challenger wins and Michelsen’s performance on hard courts—but neither has momentum on clay. The smart play is to wager minimally, with a small stake suggested on Michelsen possibly pulling off an upset. The winner will face Jannik Sinner next.

Ofner Struggling on the ATP Tour
Sebastian Ofner lost five of his opening six matches this year. He then won Challenger events in St. Brieuc and Thionville to return to the Top 100.
The Austrian got back to ATP Tour action in Barcelona, getting through the qualifiers before a first round defeat to Alex de Minaur. He got past Nikoloz Basilashvili 7-6 7-6 in Madrid before a 6-4 6-4 second round loss against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
It was the first time Ofner had got past the first round of an ATP Tour event since Wimbledon 2025.
The 29-year-old returned to the Challenger circuit in Aix-en-Provence where he defeated Stan Wawrinka in straight sets. He suffered a 6-4 2-6 7-6 second round defeat to Rinky Hijikata.
Michelsen Uncomfortable on Clay
Alex Michelsen has been entrenched in the Top 50 since August 2024. He reached the Brisbane International semi-finals in January but hasn’t got to a quarter-final since.
The American ended the hard court swing with two consistent performances, going out in the fourth rounds in Indian Wells and Miami.
The 21-year-old has had a poor transition to clay where he has a 16-22 career record. He failed to get past the second round in Houston, Munich and Madrid.
Michelsen went to the Aix-en-Provence Challenger to regain some confidence but it backfired. He met World No.312 Pol Martin Tiffon in the first round, going down 6-4 3-6 6-3 in over two hours.
Verdict
Sebastian Ofner regularly loses in the first round at ATP events and Alex Michelsen doesn’t appear to enjoy playing on clay. This is one to avoid from a betting perspective, the winner to take on Jannik Sinner in the second round.
