Aryna Sabalenka continues her remarkable form at the French Open, having reached her fourth straight Round of 16 and boasting a dominant record against top players and Naomi Osaka. Osaka, meanwhile, achieves her best result at Roland Garros despite an injury-riddled season. Although Osaka's run is impressive, Sabalenka's recent results, power, and consistency make her the strong favorite heading into their match. The numbers, including Sabalenka's 2-1 head-to-head lead and her grand slam reliability, suggest she is likely to win in straight sets.

Sabalenka Extends Round of 16 Streak

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Daria Kasatkina in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5, to reach the fourth round at the French Open. She dropped serve once and broke her opponent five times during the match.

This is Sabalenka's fourth consecutive Round of 16 appearance at Roland Garros. She converted each of her previous three into quarterfinal runs, including a semifinal in 2023 and a runner-up finish in 2025.

The Belarusian made a flying start to the season by reaching the final in each of her first four tournaments. Her clay campaign slowed down a little with a quarterfinal loss to Hailey Baptiste in Madrid and a third-round defeat to Sorana Cirstea in Rome, but she has looked back to her best in Paris.

Since the start of 2024, Sabalenka has lost only two Round of 16 matches at tour-level events from 32 appearances, highlighting her consistency in reaching the latter stages of tournaments.

She owns a 15-3 record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches. Her most recent defeat at this stage came against Kaia Kanepi at the Australian Open in 2022.

Osaka Reaches New Ground in Paris

Naomi Osaka defeated world No. 17 Iva Jovic in three tight sets, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, to reach the fourth round at the French Open. She fired 12 aces and was broken only twice during the match.

This is Osaka's best-ever result at Roland Garros. She had previously reached the third round here three times, with all three runs ending at that stage.

The Japanese star has dealt with abdominal issues for much of the season and was sidelined for nearly two months, limiting her tournament schedule. Despite that, she has produced encouraging results, reaching the fourth round in Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome before arriving in Paris.

Osaka owns a 5-2 record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches. Her only defeats at this stage came against Belinda Bencic at the US Open in 2019 and Simona Halep at the Australian Open in 2018.
