Keys Survives Tough Test Against Mboko

Madison Keys defeated Canadian youngster Victoria Mboko in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, to reach the fourth round at the French Open. Keys had a couple of match points to finish the contest in straight sets but was forced into a decider before eventually getting through.

This is her sixth Round of 16 appearance at Roland Garros. She converted three of her previous four appearances at this stage into quarterfinal runs, including last year.

The American failed to defend a significant number of ranking points during the opening months of the season, which left her close to dropping outside the Top 20. However, her recent clay-court results have been encouraging, with a semifinal in Charleston and a runner-up finish at the WTA 125 event in Paris.

Keys heads into this match with a 12-11 record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches. Her most recent appearance at this stage ended in a loss to Jessica Pegula at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Shnaider Chasing First Major Quarterfinal

Diana Shnaider reached the fourth round at the French Open after defeating Oleksandra Oliynykova 7-5, 6-1. She trailed 1-4 in the opening set before turning the match around and finishing strongly.

This was Shnaider's third straight-set win of the week after earlier victories over McCartney Kessler and Renata Zarazua. It is also her best result at Roland Garros, having won only two matches across her previous three appearances.

The Russian arrived in Paris short on confidence after failing to win multiple matches in seven of her previous eight tournaments. Her only notable result during that stretch was a quarterfinal run in Charleston, and those struggles saw her slip out of the Top 20.

Shnaider has played only one previous fourth-round match at a Grand Slam. That run ended in a straight-set loss to Jessica Pegula, and she now faces another American opponent with a place in the quarterfinals at stake.
