Parry, enjoying strong home support, has earned three upsets and reversed her clay fortunes, while Chwalinska, a qualifier, has won six straight matches, including victories over top seeds. Parry’s breakthrough run and strong home support have fueled an impressive week, but Chwalińska arrives with plenty of confidence of her own after a series of strong performances, making this a matchup that could go the distance.

Quarterfinal Dreams Alive

  • Maja Chwalinska holds a 6–2 record against Top 100 players this year.
  • She is looking for her second tour-level quarterfinal and first at a Grand Slam.

Qualifier Chwalinska Keeps Dream Run Alive

Maja Chwalinska secured her place in the fourth round after defeating Maria Sakkari from a set down, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. She trailed by a set and a break at one stage before turning the match around.

The Pole has now won six matches as a qualifier this week, including victories over Qinwen Zheng and Elise Mertens. It is a remarkable run for a player who had very limited tour-level experience, and it will move her into the Top 80 for the first time next week.

The 24-year-old has continued her progress throughout the season. She has reached at least the quarterfinals five times across all levels, including the WTA 125 title in Oeiras and a quarterfinal run in Cluj-Napoca, where she recorded her first back-to-back wins at tour level.

Before this week, Chwalinska had won only one Grand Slam main-draw match, which came at Wimbledon in 2024. With the confidence from this run, she is now chasing her first Grand Slam quarterfinal and only the second quarterfinal appearance of her tour-level career.

Parry's Clay Revival Rolls On

Diane Parry advanced to the fourth round after defeating Amanda Anisimova in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6. She fired 10 aces and broke serve four times during the match.

This was Parry's third consecutive upset of the week. She had already defeated Anhelina Kalinina and Ann Li in the previous rounds. She has now won seven of her last nine matches against higher-ranked opponents.

With this victory, Parry snapped a five-match losing streak in Grand Slam third-round matches and also ended a seven-match losing streak against Top 10 players. The run has moved her close to a return to the Top 50 rankings.

The Frenchwoman has now won eight of her last nine matches on clay, a significant turnaround after starting the clay season with four consecutive defeats.
