Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova prepare for a fierce quarterfinal showdown on clay. Gauff, known for her consistent clay-court performance, has previously struggled against top 10 players but remains a formidable force on this surface. In contrast, Muchova, despite limited recent clay appearances due to injury, has been in outstanding form this season, capturing the Doha title and making strong tournament runs. Muchova Fights Back To Victory

Karolina Muchova advanced to the quarterfinals after a strong comeback win over Elise Mertens, 1-6, 6-3, 6-0. She had earlier defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets.

Despite limited appearances on clay in recent years due to injuries, she has shown her quality on the surface this week. The last time she recorded back-to-back wins on clay was in Palermo 2024.

The Czech has been in outstanding form in 2026, winning 20 of her 24 matches so far, with all four losses coming against top-five opponents. Her season includes a title in Doha, semifinals in Brisbane and Miami, and a fourth-round run at the Australian Open.

Muchova has a strong record in clay-court quarterfinals, winning three of her four appearances and converting all three into finals, in Prague 2019, French Open 2023, and Palermo 2024.

Gauff Overcomes Slow Start Strongly

Coco Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Liudmila Samsonova 7-5, 6-1. She trailed 0-3 early and was broken three times in the first set before turning the match around comfortably.

The American is coming off a strong run in Miami, where she reached the final after surviving four three-set matches before losing to Aryna Sabalenka, marking her best result at the Sunshine Double.

She has also produced solid results this season, including a quarterfinal at the Australian Open and a semifinal in Dubai. Last year, she excelled on clay with three consecutive finals in major events and an impressive 18-3 record during that stretch.

Gauff holds a 5-3 record in tour-level clay quarterfinals. Notably, two of those losses came in Stuttgart, against Marta Kostyuk in 2024 and Jasmine Paolini in 2025.
