This will be their first meeting.

Mananchaya Sawangkaew Eyes Fresh Start on the Big Stage

Mananchaya Sawangkaew is easing back after a six-month injury layoff, having played only three tournaments since returning in late November. A W75 title in Nonthaburi recently helped the former world No. 100 climb back inside the top 200.

Before the setback, she enjoyed a strong run on tour, reaching three WTA quarterfinals from late 2024 into early 2025 and finishing runner-up at a WTA 125 event in Mumbai.

The injury disrupted her momentum, but she now gets a fresh start. Sawangkaew will make her Grand Slam main-draw debut using a protected ranking, a key milestone in her comeback.

Emma Raducanu Still Searching for Momentum

Emma Raducanu has had a frustrating start to 2026. She lost to Maria Sakkari at the United Cup, picked up one win over Camila Osorio, and then suffered a shock quarterfinal loss to world No. 204 Taylah Preston.

The former US Open champion is still searching for consistency. She has not won back-to-back matches since the US Open and, outside a withdrawal-aided run in Hobart, had not reached a quarterfinal since Washington DC in July.

That patchy form clouds her outlook at the Australian Open. Raducanu’s best result in Melbourne remains a third-round finish in 2025, and another deep run appears unlikely.

Verdict

Raducanu could not have asked for a kinder opening test. With a matchup that suits her game, this feels like a prime opportunity to shake off recent struggles and open her campaign with a controlled win.
