Mboko Shows Remarkable Composure

Victoria Mboko moved into the final in Strasbourg after defeating Jaqueline Cristian 7-6, 3-6, 6-2. She trailed 1-4 in the opening set and saved three set points before stealing the set, a turnaround that proved crucial in the match. 

The run is especially impressive considering Mboko’s limited experience on tour-level clay events. Before this week, she had played only three main-draw tournaments on the surface, highlighted by a third-round appearance at French Open in 2025. 

The 19-year-old has consistently delivered deep runs throughout 2026. She reached finals in Adelaide and Doha while also making quarterfinal appearances in Indian Wells and Miami before continuing her rise on clay this week. 

Mboko now owns a 2-2 record in tour-level finals. She won her first two finals in Montreal and Hong Kong but lost her two most recent title matches against top-20 opponents.

Emma Navarro defeated compatriot Ann Li 6-1, 6-3 to reach the final in Strasbourg. Earlier this week, she needed three sets to get past Zhang Shuai and Iva Jovic. 

The American had struggled badly on clay before this tournament, losing all four of her previous tour-level quarterfinals on the surface. She had also never recorded back-to-back top-50 wins on clay before this week. 

Navarro arrived in Strasbourg on a five-match losing streak and had not registered multiple wins in a tournament since January. However, she has completely turned her form around with an impressive run this week. 

She now advances to the third tour-level final of her career. Navarro won both of her previous finals, lifting the titles in Hobart in 2024 and Merida last year.
