Atletico CP vs Benfica Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips - Benfica to Advance in the Portuguese Cup

In a highly anticipated matchup, Atletico CP faces Benfica in the upcoming cup fixture. Atletico CP have struggled significantly this season, managing less than a goal per game, and have a daunting record of not scoring in their last nine encounters with Benfica. Meanwhile, Benfica remains a formidable force, especially in the Portuguese Cup, frequently winning matches with commanding leads. Under Jose Mourinho, Benfica is expected to field a strong lineup that could deliver yet another victory over Atletico CP.

Atletico CP vs Benfica Preview

Atletico CP are struggling in Liga 3 where they have scored less than a goal a game. I think Jose Mourinho will select a full strength side that should be far too good in the Cup.

Atletico CP Form

Atletico CP have played both Portuguese Cup games at home this season, starting by beating Rebordosa 1-0 thanks to Miguel Barandas’ late strike. They did well to defeat second division side Felgueiras 2-0, both goals coming in the second half.

Pedro D´Oliveira’s side have won one of their previous six games in Liga 3 where they sit ninth in the table in Group B. It came in early October, a 4-0 victory over 1º Dezembro with three goals coming against 10 men.

The Lisbon club failed to score in two games before a 1-1 draw at Amora last time out, Barandas opening the scoring and Vicente Durand sent off late on.

Benfica Form

Benfica have been inconsistent this season, losing all four matches in the Champions League. That run included a home defeat to Qarabag and culminated with a 1-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Eagles are undefeated in the Primeira Liga, seven wins and four draws leaving them third on the table, six points behind Porto.

Jose Mourinho’s side have drawn at home to Santa Clara, Rio Ave and Casa Pia, conceding in added time each time. They were 2-0 up against Casa Pia but couldn’t close it out, poor defending costing them once again in a 2-2 draw.

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Atletico CP (4-5-1) Fabio Ferreira, Paulinho, Bruno Almeida, Duarte Henriques, Vicente Durand; Joãozinho, Caleb, Catarino Pascoal, Ricardo Dias, Miguel Barandas; Nicolas Souza

Duarte Henriques and Nicolas Souza could return to the starting side here, replacing Fran Gonzalez and Caio Santana.

Benfica (4-2-3-1) Anatoliy Trubin; Amar Dedic, Tomas Araujo, Nicolas Otamendi, Samuel Dahl; Richard Rios, Enzo Barrenechea; Fredrik Aursnes, Franjo Ivanovic, Gianluca Prestianni; Vangelis Pavlidis

Alexander Bah, Manu Silva and Bruma remain out injured. Georgiy Sudakov is expected to be out due to a muscle injury.

Dodi Lukebakio fractured his left ankle on international duty for Belgium and is expected to be out for two months.

Verdict

Atletico CP haven’t scored in nine straight matches against Benfica, the last meeting coming in 1982. Despite the long break between battles, I am expecting the Eagles to continue the trend.
