Celtic and Hearts face off at Parkhead in a match expected to deliver plenty of goals, reflecting both teams’ recent records. Celtic, despite a rough patch including a 4-1 Europa League loss, have won seven of eight league matches but remain defensively vulnerable. Hearts, third in the division, are in strong attacking form. The article recommends BTTS (both teams to score) & over 2.5 goals as the best bet, given the high-scoring trends and attacking prowess on display.

Celtic vs Hearts Predictions

Celtic take on Hearts in a repeat of last season's Scottish Premiership final day shootout at Parkhead.

The champions have endured a tough run of results and another big test awaits in a likely high-scoring contest.

I'm backing BTTS & over 2.5 goals this weekend.

Recent Results Point Towards Goals

  • Celtic have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 2 of their last 4 home matches
  • Celtic conceded 1+ goals in 7 of their last 10 matches
  • Celtic have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches against Hearts
  • Hearts have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 away matches
  • Hearts scored 1+ goals in their last 15 matches

Celtic Hold the H2H Edge Since 2020

Celtic and Hearts have met on 23 occasions since 2020. The Hoops won 16 of those encounters while Hearts claimed five victories. Two games finished level.

Celtic claimed a famous 3-1 victory in the most recent meeting on the final day of last season, with late goals from Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand securing the Premiership title.

Celtic Seek Response After Lisbon Defeat

Celtic return to domestic action after a dismal 4-1 defeat at Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday.

Jhon Duran scored twice, and Alexander Bah also struck as the Portuguese side raced into a three-goal lead before the interval.

Camilo Duran pulled one back for Celtic, but Vangelis Pavlidis' late strike completed a comfortable victory for the hosts.

The Portuguese giants could have scored more in a dominant display at the Estadio da Luz. Benfica outshot Celtic 26-14 and recorded an xG of 2.74 compared to the visitors' 1.30.

Martin O'Neill's side have now lost four of their last five matches across all competitions, conceding 11 goals in that period.

The Hoops were particularly poor in back-to-back defeats against old rivals Rangers, while they also suffered a miserable 3-1 home defeat against Ferencvaros in their Europa League opener.

The champions briefly steadied the ship with a 2-0 victory at Motherwell last Sunday.

Despite their recent struggles, Celtic remain top of the Premiership with victories recorded in seven of their eight league fixtures.

Hearts Held in Conference League Clash

Hearts travel to Glasgow after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Nordsjaelland in their Conference League opener on Thursday.

Oisin McEntee gave the Jambos a deserved first-half advantage but Nicklas Rojkjaer's deflected effort four minutes from time denied the hosts a winning start.

Wouter Vrancken's side will have been frustrated not to take maximum points at Tynecastle. Hearts outshot the visitors 20-11, had seven efforts on target to Nordsjaelland's three and registered a significantly higher xG total of 1.81 compared to 0.64.

The Edinburgh side have enjoyed a strong run of form since the start of August. Hearts eased to a 5-0 win against St Mirren in their last Premiership fixture, while they have lost only one of their last 13 matches.

The attack-minded Jambos have scored a league-high 19 goals in just eight matches this season.

High-scoring outcomes have been frequent for Vrancken's side this season. At least three goals were scored in 12 of their last 15 fixtures. An average of 3.8 goals per game were scored in those matches.

Coming into this weekend's showdown in Glasgow, Hearts sit third in the division, with 16 points from eight matches, five behind Celtic.

Celtic vs Hearts Team News

Celtic: (4-2-3-1) Viljami Sinisalo; Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Mika Baur; Camilo Duran, Benjamin Nygren, Sebastian Tounekti; Kasper Hogh.

Celtic boss O'Neill is likely to make some alterations to his first XI. BenjaminNygren and Liam Scales are expected to earn recalls after dropping to the bench against Benfica.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston and Yang Hyun-June are expected to remain unavailable this weekend.

Portuguese winger Jota made his comeback from a long-term knee injury against Motherwell last weekend, but is unlikely to make his first start in 18 months.

Speaking to the BBC after Thursday's defeat in Lisbon, O’Neill praised his side for their second-half performance.

"Last thing you want to do is concede so early on. We could've capitulated, but I thought the second-half performance was terrific. We created chance after chance.

"The second-half performance gives me the determination... I think we can still qualify. We can still do it.

"We came roaring back, the subs came on and did brilliantly. We could've scored a number of goals. It changed because two wide players really wanted to get at people.

"I accept on the break they could have scored themselves, as they did with their fourth goal."

Hearts: (4-2-3-1) Beau Reus; Christian Borchgrevink, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Jamie McCart, Harry Milne; Laurent Mendy, Oisin McEntee; Calvin Miller, Claudio Braga, Josh McPake; James Wilson.

Hearts boss Vrancken has a few injury absentees this weekend. Eduardo Ageu misses out after picking up a muscle injury in training this week.

Blair Spittal remains a long-term absentee, while Tom Renaud is sidelined with an ankle injury.

Jordi Altena, Stephen Kingsley and Sabah Kerjota are among those pushing for recalls after substitute appearances on Thursday.

Speaking to the BBC on Thursday, Vrancken bemoaned his side's inability to capitalise on their dominance against Nordsjaelland.

"Not so much frustration, more disappointment because of the late goal. And also because we couldn't show anything more in the last 20 minutes.

"I expected a bit more energy there when you make substitutions. We lost energy instead of gaining it, and that's not what we need.

"It had to be 2-0 or 3-0 at half-time. Even in the second half, we had moments we have to exploit and do better. Then you kill the game, and you're confident and comfortable."

Verdict

Celtic remain vulnerable at the back, while Hearts’ attacking approach points to a high-scoring Premiership contest.
