France vs Iceland Predictions & Tips - France to Maintain Winning Form in Paris

France, strong in recent home matches and coming off a 2-0 win over Ukraine, are expected to secure a solid victory against Iceland in their upcoming World Cup qualifier. While Iceland recently achieved a 5-0 win, their away form remains poor, having lost seven of their last ten qualifiers on the road. Didier Deschamps’ squad will be missing a few key players, but with their impressive record, France are tipped to win by at least two goals in a high-scoring contest. Iceland are likely to stick with their winning XI, but face a tough challenge.

France vs Iceland Predictions

France should have enough firepower to secure a convincing victory on home soil. I'm backing Les Bleus to win by at least two goals in a routine victory in Paris.

Stats

  • France won 7 of their last 10 matches
  • France won 7 of their last 10 home matches
  • France won by more than 1 goal in 6 of their last 7 victories
  • Iceland lost by more than 1 goal in their last 2 away matches against France
  • Iceland lost 7 of their last 10 away matches (qualifiers)

Head to Head

France and Iceland have met seven times in the last 29 years. France won five of those encounters, including a 4-0 win in Paris in 2019, with the other two fixtures ending deadlocked.

France Form

France return to Paris after a well-deserved 2-0 win against Ukraine on Saturday night, thanks to goals from Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe. The Real Madrid forward made history by equalling Thierry Henry's tally of 51 international goals at the age of just 26.

An improved run of form since their elimination at Euro 2024 has seen the French pick up seven wins from their ten most recent fixtures. Similarly strong in home qualifiers, Les Bleues won seven and lost just one of their ten previous qualifiers in Paris.

The French also scored dominant wins in two previous home meetings against Iceland, includin a 5-2 win in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

France Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan, Brice Samba, Lucas Chevalier
Defenders: Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Digne, Jules Koundé, Lucas Hernandez, Théo Hernandez, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konaté, Malo Gusto
Midfielders: Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Manu Koné, Désiré Doué, Khéphren Thuram
Forwards: Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Marcus Thuram, Bradley Barcola, Michael Olise, Maghnes Akliouche, Hugo Ekitike

France boss Didier Deschamps has a 23-man squad available for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier. PSG pair Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue miss out after sustaining injuries in Saturday's win over Ukraine, paving the way for Hugo Ekitike to earn his first start in attack.

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba is sidelined through injury, while Kingsley Coman and N'Golo Kante have been left out of the squad.

Iceland Form

Iceland head to Paris buoyed by a dominant 5-0 win over Azerbaijan on Saturday. Ísak Bergmann Johannesson bagged a second-half brace as the Icelandics ran riot in the second period with four goals scored.

Before Saturday's much-needed win, Arnar Gunnlaugsson's men had lost four of their previous five matches while struggling for results away from home. Across their last ten qualifiers on the road (Euro 2024 and World Cup 2022), Iceland slipped to seven defeats and picked up just one win.

High-scoring outcomes have been a regular feature in their recent fixtures, with over 2.5 goals landing in eight of their last ten matches.

Iceland Squad

Goalkeepers: Elias Rafn Olafsson, Hakon Valdimarsson, Anton Ari Einarsson
Defenders: Logi Tomasson, Daniel Leo Gretarsson, Victor Palsson, Sverrir Ingi Ingason, Bjarki Steinn Bjarkason, Hjortur Hermannsson
Midfielders: Gisli Thordarson, Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, Isak Bergmann Johannesson, Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson, Thorir Johann Helgason, Willum Thor Willumsson, Stefan Teitur Thordarson, Mikael Anderson, Kristian Hlynsson, Mikael Egill Ellertsson
Forwards: Saevar Atli Magnusson, Albert Gudmundsson, Brynjolfur Willumsson, Daniel Gudjohnsen, Andri Gudjohnsen

Head coach Arnar Gunnlaugsson is expected to stick with the same starting XI that dismantled Azerbaijan 5-0 last time out. The visitors have reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of their trip to Paris.

Verdict

France are a solid choice in home fixtures, and they should prove too strong for Iceland, even in the absence of PSG duo Doue and Dembele. I expect the French to cover a-2 AH on Tuesday.
