Jamus vs Mogadishu City CECAFA Kagame Cup Preview

Jamus of South Sudan are aiming to secure top spot in Group B when they face Somalia's Mogadishu City at the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The Buffaloes are unbeaten in the competition and should have the edge over their rivals, who are without a win.

Key Stats

  • Jamus are unbeaten in their two Kagame Cup matches.
  • Jamus have won five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
  • Mogadishu City have failed to win their last three matches in all competitions.

No Previous Meetings

This will be the first ever meeting between Jamus and Mogadishu City.

Jamus Flying High

Jamus come into this clash off the back of a 0-0 draw with Simba in their previous fixture. That result means the Buffaloes remain unbeaten in Group B after beginning their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Singida Black Stars.

Having faced two former champions and home favourites, Jamus will be full of confidence heading into their final group fixture. They are currently top of the table and a win on Friday will guarantee a place in the semi-final.

Jamus' showings in Tanzania are an extension of their overall form heading into this tournament. They are unbeaten in six of their last seven matches in all competitions, picking up five wins in this run.

Mogadishu Struggling to Get Going

Mogadishu City suffered a 4-1 defeat to Singida Black Stars in their previous Group B fixture. They failed to build on Naby Bangoura’s effort early in the first half and went on to suffer a defensive capitulation.

The result means Mogadishu City remain without a win in the competition, having played out a 0-0 draw with Simba in their opening fixture. However, they are not down and out yet as a win on Friday could put them in the mix as a second-placed qualifier.

The problem for Mogadishu City is that their overall form has not been convincing in recent matches. The Somalians are without a win in their last three matches in all competitions.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Jamus (4–3-3): Majak Mawith; Haniff Wesonga, Hakeem Kasri, Jean Ngumbi, Bawak Etta; Stephen Dhata, Duvan Elenga, Kevin Muhire; Laurent Ramazani, Irungu Waithira, George Mfegue.

Ngumbi should start at the heart of the defence for Jamus alongside Kasri. Ellenga is expected to line up in midfield while Ramazani is set to feature in attack once again.

Mogadishu City (4-4-2): Yaqub Yusuf; Seun Ogunribide, Albert Kamara, Abdirahman Omar, Khalid Ahmed Hassan; Pentecost Obiechina, Iliyas Akram, Ibrahima Bangura, Naby Bangoura; Adnan Yusuf, Jerry Roussel.

Ogunribide is expected to line up in defence alongside Abdirahman Omar. Bangoura should continue in midfield while Yusuf and Roussel are set to partner in attack.
