Venezia and Fiorentina have had shocking starts in Serie A and will be desperate to avoid another defeat. Under 2.5 goals is my best bet while a draw wouldn’t surprise.

Venezia in Poor Form


The writing was on the wall for Venezia who left it late in the Coppa Italia, scoring two late goals to beat Modena 3-2. They have now lost four straight games.

The Winged Lions lost 2-0 against Lecce and 2-0 at AC Milan, rarely threatening at San Siro. Richie Sagrado opened the scoring at Udinese where they outplayed from the 30 minute mark, losing 2-1 and exiting the Coppa.

Giovanni Stroppa’s side showed some fight at Frosinone on Sunday, John Yeboah and Richie Sagrado scoring to make it 2-2. They lost 3-2 after ending with 61% possession and 2.17-1.90 xG.

Fiorentina Rock Bottom


Fiorentina got off to a strong start in the Coppa Italia, beating Benevento 4-1 with Albert Gudmundsson, Moise Kean, Luca Ranieri and Cher Ndour finding the net.

Fabio Grosso’s side are now at the foot of the Serie A table after three straight defeats. They suffered a deserved 4-0 loss at Roma before a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Frosinone.

Mateo Pellegrino opened the scoring against Torino on Saturday but Fiorentina failed to close it out, going down 2-1 to leave the manager under pressure.

Grosso addressed the situation after the match: “Certain things require time and you need to work on them. However, I’m the head coach and I take all responsibility.”

“I’m happy to because that’s what I’m used to. Again, we’re disappointed because this is a city that deserves a lot more. We were convinced that we could achieve great things, but this start is certainly a major setback.”

Verdict

Venezia and Fiorentina are yet to pick up a point in Serie A so something has to give in this one. I am expecting a low scoring game with a draw suiting both clubs.
