Shanghai Port host city rivals Shanghai Shenhua in Saturday's CSL derby, both teams bringing goal-heavy form into the clash. Shanghai Port, despite recent defensive issues and sitting 13th, remain dangerous in attack, while Shenhua, having recovered from a poor run, now chase top league positions. Their recent encounters and current form signal high chances of both teams scoring and over 2.5 total goals. Expect an exciting, competitive game with plenty of action as both sides aim to assert local dominance.

Shanghai Port vs Shanghai Shenhua Predictions

Shanghai's biggest rivalry takes centre stage on Saturday as Shanghai Port welcome city rivals Shanghai Shenhua to Motor Pudong Arena.

Goals can usually be expected when these Chinese giants are involved, and I expect more of the same this weekend.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals is my top pick.

Goals Expected in the Shanghai Derby

  • Shanghai Port have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches
  • Shanghai Port have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 matches against Shanghai Shenhua
  • Shanghai Shenhua have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches

Shanghai Port Hold the H2H Edge

Shanghai Port and Shanghai Shenhua meet for the 34th time in the Chinese Super League era. Port won 13 of the previous 33 meetings, while Shenhua claimed nine victories, including a 3-2 win at this venue last year.

Port Seal CFA Cup Progress

Shanghai Port come into Saturday's derby contest after a penalty shootout win against Shenzhen in the CFA Cup. Jean Claude Aziangbe’s second goal of the season gave Port the advantage before Wesley Moraes’s second-half equaliser sent the tie into extra-time.

After a goalless 30 minutes, Kevin Muscat’s men eventually squeezed through with a 4-3 spot kick victory.

Tuesday’s CFA Cup success came on the back of a 2-2 draw at Yunnan Yukun last weekend.

An inability to turn draws into victories has been a big issue for the CSL champions. Six of their last 11 games finished deadlocked. The Red Eagles now sit 13th in the 16-team league, just five points above the drop zone.

Kevin Muscat's side remain dangerous on the front foot, but defensive vulnerabilities continue to damage their title defence. Port conceded 26 goals in just 16 league games, while they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 games.

Still a reliable choice for goal chasers, an average of exactly three goals per match were scored in Shanghai’s 18 CSL fixtures this season.

Shanghai Shenhua Thrash Hainiu

Shanghai Shenhua make the short trip to Motor Pudong Arena after an impressive 4-1 win against Hainiu in the CFA Cup on Wednesday.

Luís Asue helped himself to a first-half hat-trick as Leonid Slutskiy’s side eased to victory, despite conceding the opener after just three minutes.

The Blues Devils have picked up some form after a miserable seven-game winless run in May. Shenhua won four and lost just one of five fixtures completed in the last month.

Now more than halfway through the CSL season, Shenhua sit 11th in the division, three points ahead of their Shanghai rivals.

Like the home side, Slutskiy's men have been involved in several high-scoring encounters this year. Nine of their last 12 games finished with BTTS and over 2.t goals scored. An average of 3.61 goals per game were scored in their 18 CSL matches.

Shanghai Port vs Shanghai Shenhua Team News

Shanghai Port: (4-2-3-1) Junling Yan; Alex Yang, Zhen Wei, Umidjan Yusup, Xin Yue; Yongtao Lu, Mateus Vital; Xinxiang Li, Oscar Melendo, Prince Ampem; Leonardo.

Kevin Muscat could be forced into one or two changes after Shanghai’s hard-fought penalty shootout win against Shenzhen.

Wang Zhenao and Yongtao Lu are likely candidates to earn recalls should the Australian boss opt to freshen his selection.

Shanghai Shenhua: (4-2-3-1) Qinghao Xue; Wilson Manafa, Chenjie Zhu, Shinichi Chan, Shuai Yang; Xi Wu, Haijian Wang; Tianyi Gao, Rafael Ratao, Pengfei Xie; Luis Asue.

Leonid Slutsky could keep faith with the same side that eased past Hainiu earlier this week.

In-form forward Luis Asue will continue to lead the Blue Devils attack.

Verdict

These fierce local rivals are evenly matched, and another competitive derby should be on the cards.

Recent form and past encounters suggest a strong chance of BTTS and over 2.5 goals landing in Shanghai.
