Sligo Rovers and Drogheda are set to face off in a crucial Republic of Ireland Premier Division match, where both sides have struggled to find consistent form all season. Given their current standing and lack of momentum, this basement clash is expected to be a cautious affair with neither wanting to suffer another defeat. As such, a draw—particularly 1-1—looks the most likely outcome. Punters are advised to consider betting on a draw in this encounter.

Sligo Rovers vs Drogheda Preview

Sligo Rovers and Drogheda are lacking form and need points to battle against relegation. A draw is the best bet between these struggling Republic of Ireland Premier Division sides.

Key Stats - Out of Form Sides

  • Sligo are winless in 6 consecutive home games.
  • Sligo Rovers have drawn 2 of their last 3 home matches against Drogheda.
  • Drogheda are winless in 9 of their last 11 away games.

H2H - Plenty of Draws

Sligo have a 24-20 advantage against Drogheda, alongside 31 draws.

Sligo Rovers Are Bottom of the Republic of Ireland Premier Division

Sligo Rovers are 12th in the Republic of Ireland Premier Division and five points from safety. John Russell’s team have secured 12 of their 20 points at home this season.

The Bit O'Red are winless in their last six league games, losing five. Their last point came from a 2-2 home draw with Shelbourne.

Losses to Shamrock Rovers at home 2-1 and Galway away 3-2 followed. Rovers fell to a third consecutive defeat after a 2-1 friendly home defeat to Coleraine.

Russell’s side hit back with a 4-0 FAI Cup victory at Janesboro. Luke Pearce scored twice and Archie Meekison and Sean McHale also found the net.

Drogheda in Relegation Danger

Kevin Doherty’s Drogheda are just four points above the Republic of Ireland Premier Division’s bottom two. The Drogs are one of the league’s most out-of-form teams, gaining just six points from nine games.

The County Louth outfit outfit were on an eight match winless run in the league, including three draws. Drogheda ended that streak with a 2-1 victory at Dundalk.

Doherty’s side won back-to-back matches for the first time since May after beating Lucan United in the FAI Cup. Mark Doyle and Thomas Oluwa scored to secure the one-sided win.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Sligo Rovers (4-2-3-1): Sam Sargeant; Jeannot Esua, Gareth McElroy, Sean McHale, Sean Stewart; Carl McHugh, James McManus; Ryan O'Kane, Archie Meekison, Cian Fitzgerald; Luke Pearce

Defender Seb Quirk is suspended for the Drogheda game.

Midfielder Jad Hakiki is out with a foot injury and defender Conor Reynolds has a muscular issue.

Drogheda (3-4-2-1): Luke Dennison; Edwin Agbaje, Conor Keeley, Leo Burney; Jason Bucknor, Shane Farrell, Ryan Brennan, Conor Kane; Brandon Kavanagh, Thomas Oluwa; Mark Doyle

Defensive trio Kieran Cruise, Owen Lambe and Andrew Quinn are sidelined with injuries.

Attacker Warren Davis is also unavailable due to injury.

Verdict

Sligo Rovers and Drogheda have struggled for form all season. Neither side will want to lose this Republic of Ireland Premier Division basement clash and a draw is likely.
