Tusker vs Rayon Sports CECAFA Kagame Cup Preview

Rwanda's Rayon Sports are aiming to claim their second straight win in the CECAFA Kagame Cup when they face Tusker of Kenya in a Group C clash.

The Rwandans have been in good form lately and backed by a vocal home crowd, should have the upper hand over the Kenyans, who have been below their best.

Key Stats

  • Tusker have failed to win four of their last five matches in all competitions.
  • Tusker have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions.
  • Rayon Sports are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

First Ever Meeting

There are no previous matches between Tusker and Rayon Sports.

Tusker Struggling for Form

Tusker are coming off a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Al Hilal Omdurman in their opening Group C fixture. They saw plenty of possession and created a number of chances but were wasteful in attack.

While it was a disappointing defeat for Tusker, they are not down and out yet as a win on Wednesday puts them back in the mix. They will consider the chances created as a positive and will look to be more clinical in the next match.

The problem for Tusker is that the opening result is part of a poor run of form. The Kenyans are winless in four of their last five matches in all competitions, suffering three defeats in this run.

Solid Start for Rayon Sport

It was a solid start to the Kagame Cup for Rayon Sports, who eased to a 2-0 victory over KVZ in their opening fixture. Following a drab first half, they came to life after the break, with goals from Junior Kameni and Daniel Muhoza earning them the win.

The victory over KVZ is part of a solid recent run for Rayon Sports, who have shown some good form lately. The Rwandans are unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

The result gives Rayon Sport some control in the group and puts them in a great position to progress. A victory over Tusker on Wednesday should be enough to secure a berth in the knockout phase.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Tusker (4-3-3): Brandon Obiero; Collins Ochieng, Eugene Ikutwa, Thomas Teka, Abud Omar; Chrispine Erambo, Yakine Ochieng, Fabian Adikiny; Stephen Etyang, Victor Mbaoma, Ian Simiyu.

Tusker came away from their opening fixture with no injuries or suspensions. Ikutwa and Teka should continue their central defensive partnership while striker Mbaoma should lead the line once again.

Rayon Sports (4-3-3): Dande Junior; Elle Ganijuru, Emmanuel Nshimiyimana, Charles Tchouplaou, Abdel Matumona; Akbar Muderi, Ibrahim Djingarey, Issa Djiguiba; Boris Gbenou, Atisso Kodjo, Junior Kameni.

Kameni could be pushing for a start in attack for Rayon Sports after coming off the bench to score in the opening game. Djiguiba is set to continue in midfield while Tchouplaou should retain his position at the back.
